Default Race Results: Infinion Raceway SCCA event

This weekend I ran with SCCA in the ITE (anything goes in a stock tub on DOTs class) . Had a great time, as this club really knows how to run an event. on time, very few offs, and a ton of great comp and fun.
In ITE was my biggest competition, a M3 3.2 euro, whom usually we split wins, depending on the day or the track. A new comer, a 500hp Griggs Racing mustang with 415hp at the rear wheels. (a work of art, even the driver and controls are moved back a foot for balance). a few odd ball racers like a turbo mazda, 300hp nissan , e46 2001 M3, and a 412rear wheel hp C5 corvette (with only a set of headers and a cam!)

didnt qualify that well, as it was early in the morning and I was fighting a sound violation, with only a borla tip muffler and a 103 sound limit. gridded up in 5th place as the green flag dropped, a 1st gear punch from 5k to redline jumped me into 3rd behind the Griggs racing mustang and the Euro 3.2 M3. lost it right back to the two cars going into turn 2, only to capture it back 2 laps later from both. spent the rest of the time trying to break my old personal best of 1:50.3, for which i did, 1:50.1 and did 1:50.2 for the first 5 laps as well. Wanted to beat the old ITE record of 1:50.7, and would have, if not for the 'rippin BMW and mustang whom ran 1:48.xx's and took 1st and 2nd. 3rd was fine when you think of a 10 year older car, driven to the track, and 1/5 the cost of the two cars a head.

Is there a better car 10 years newer than a 928 in stock form?? hardly!
That mustang for example, cost $100k if you want to call Griggs racing and order one. sweet car, but for $20more K ill put a stroker in mine and leave him for dust!!

drove it home, got a bunch of laughs as i picked up the 3rd place trophy with my car stuffed with tools, tires and the rest of my gear. Good news was that with the new sound requirements, i didnt need to change mufflers, so that made a quicker pack up time. (usually, run the straightpipes when allowed!)

Now, going to check my missing teeth on my two cam sprockets before the next race: The Road and Track Invitational at laguna Seca on May 1-2nd.

Hope to see some of you there . Its a very cool porsche event and lots of other top sports car teams will be there in different run groups.

Great job Mark. 1:50.1 is flying. I would've come out to say "hi" this weekend, but I was up at T-hill running with PCA.

I'm going to be at Sears this weekend with the Speedventures group. If I get into the 1:56's, I'll be surprised. I'm calling it my "corporate hospitality" weekend as I'm going to take passengers out for rides for as many sessions as possible on both days.

I'll be down at Laguna to watch the races along with a few other 928 folks. See you there!

I love that Steve Mcqueen photo!

Hey, thanks. I get a big kick out of racing this basically stock 928. its getting a lot of attention, and even though many are raising the bar with more and more money, im still close enough, to make them look twice at the old "war horse"
Just filling in my notebook last night. already, going on 3 seasons now, all stock, not even an oil cooler or trannie cooler, stock brakes, and an engine that hasnt been apart since it rolled off the assembly line in 1986!!!

Im knocking on wood as I always do, and telling that ive only changed oil and brake pads in the 3 years on the track!! (and I do about 2k of street driving a year too!) (oh, dont forget the garbage can tires too!)
Hail to Amzoil and not hitting the rev limiter!! (and Speed World Challenge for access to their perfect shape Toyo RA1 race/street tires!)

Thanks Dennis. Lets finish gutting your car and get you on the circuit. You could have beaten a couple of pretty fast M3s and corvettes. (155 ish)
anway, look forward to seeing you out there at laguna. should be a cool show to watch too.

get some video of sears over the weekend and get it up on the site.

Sure Seth - how about coming along for a ride in the first red session on Sunday? It's great that you'll be out there too. It's going to be a blast.

Don't forget, you can never put on too much protective tape:
