Default Leather Dash covers

I've got a few leather items left. They'e on eBay.

Leather Listings on EBay

Rennlisters can take the following off the prices.

Dash & glove box Cover $20
Console $10
A pillar $5
Let me know.

We've finally gotten back to designing the pod cover. The switch holes are proving to be a challange, particularly the one for the ignition switch.
It seems the leather is somewhat thick and the push switches get hung up. I'm guessing Porsche used thinner leather or trimmed the holes. So far trimming the holes seems to be the way to go; since thinner leather in the Porsche colors is not available, although it makes for a more difficult installation.
The ignition switch hole has a metal cover colored the same as the leather. Anyone have that part number? I can't seem to find it.

I'm open to other ideas on these issues. Let me know.

We're also working on door and arm rest covers.

Rob, the leather I believe is skived(sp?) around that hole, and looking at my brand new factory instrument cluster pod, I believe the factory used a leather softener to mold the leather into shape. I have had excellent success doing this with the famous "Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil and Plastic Wrap" trick. Leather becomes pliable.

One local, nationally-acclaimed specialist gave up and just added foam padding to raise the face so the leather could reach deeper into the holes ..... don't go there. It was terrible.

Rob,
Put me on the list for the first batch, or prototype extra (in black). I have an extra pod if you need a core. It has cracks of course.

When do you think one will be available? I'm redoing my instrument lighting soon, and am hoping to recover the pod at the same time.

As for the switch holes, have you considered incorporating a seam? I'm sure this would add extra cost in labor.

How about adding one relief cut to the turn-in, and hiding it at the top of each switch hole. That would be hard to see.

I have been following the leather threads. The work looks great, i just havent had the $$ to spend on the interior yet, saving up for coilovers and brakes, and possibly a blower. I am curious if you are going to offer armrest/map pocket covers. The armrests flow so well into the dash, that i think it would look much better if the two materials were the same. I would be inclined to buy a set if it inlcuded these covers, maybe even before i bought the blower.
Thanks
Hans

Rob, are these products what you needed the picture of the parts from my car?

They look nice.

I was under the impression that you were making an interior for your own car. Not running a business that is helped very much be the info that I have given you. I wonder if it even would be possible without the pictures I've sent you.

I guess I was wrong.

Hans,

Yes. We're going to offer the armrest covers. We're working on the pod cover now and will get to the armrests when that's done.
The guy I'm working with has a lot of other work he does and since he's retired, takes a lot of days off and vacations.
The quality of his work is excellent but logistics of buying the hides, finding parts for prototypes, design, fitting, trial installs and fabrication I try and get done around his somewhat erratic schedule, so I can't really say for sure when they'll be ready.
I would expect with a month we'll have it.

Awsome, i have a navy interior, so i will have to go all out anyway. Any idea on pricing for the a pillars, dash, pod, console, armrest, package yet? any plans for the rear quarters? I have ordered some ultra suede, know better as alcantara, to do the the headliner and upper and lower doors with. I thinkt the two tone, two texture look will be great on my car.
Thanks
Hans

Eventually we will have the entire interior. The only issues are time, money and logistics. My retiree friend values his time off and doesn't want to get involved with any of the expense or logistics.
Once all the initial parts (spare pods, armrests, rear quarters, etc) are obtained, I can buy the material, have him make up prototypes, check the fit, and then have him make a few.
I have some spares, (pods, armrest) to work on but I have yet to buy the hides to work with. ($400-$500 each).
I'm not sure how much well sell them for yet, since it'll be based on time, and quantity of material necessary, which we haven't calculated yet for some of the pieces.
I wish I could be more specific but there's just too many variables. When I get it all together, I'll post more information.

Anders,

Yes I did use the pictures for reference in the fabrication of a couple of the products. And yes I was having my own interior done. While I was at it I initiated the group purchase here on rennlist.
The leftover material was used to make some extra pieces that I'm selling on eBay.

I'm not sure what you're implying here but it’s not much of a business. It’s a black hole that I throw money into, like a lot of other shark owners.

I'm investing time and money in offering to make products, for rennlist members and 928 owners that aren't available anywhere else and no one has taken the initiative to undertake.

I invested quite a bit of my own money and time in this project and FYI I actually lost money on the group purchase after it was all said and done. If I sell all the stuff I have on Ebay, I may make enough to start on the armrests and rear quarters.

You're pictures were helpful and I thank you and I'm sure other Rennlisters will thank you. If you'd like some other benefit from this "business" let me know and I'll let you know where to send a check.
And yes, we could have done it without the pictures. It turns out our design was the same as the factory.

I definately appreciate and understand all the hard work you put in on this one Rob. My brown dash was trashed and didn't really know where to turn to fix. I certainly couldn't afford to send it off somewhere to get it recovered -$$$$. The dash and glove box cover you sent me was a perfect match. Thanks again.

When I install mine, I'll send you a pic and you can use it to your heart's content!

Sorry Rob, I was in some sort of 'bitch mode' when I wrote that post earlier.. Let me know if you need any more pictures or anything else..

It's a great thing you are doing to keep the interiors looking like new, I might be your next customer.

Anders

Anders,

Apology accepted. I've been in a few of those bitch modes myself now and then.

Lets just drop it.

You're shark has a really fine interior. One of the nicest around. Thanks for your help and if I need more I'll be sure to ask.

Thanks

Rob
