Jeannie is from Ohio? With her accent? Damn, all my mom's relatives are from Western North Carolina so I'm pretty good at picking up on accents, and I was sure she was southern!

On your order you requested UPS ground which will take 5-7 days. I can change it to Fed Ex overnight and you can can have it Friday but it is much more expensive.
Thanks, I love the net.

It should be a break even after I return the incorrect part to the dealer.

On second thought all credit goes to Jeannie for searching every vac belt in Walmart for the correct sized belt... and she is from Ohio, so I guess you got it right afterall :-)
Well, I went out to the shop and rumaged through my stash of stuff. I ended up cutting a used piece of radiator hose. I cleaned both parts with some paint solvent then applied Yamabond to both parts just for piece of mind. I used a zip tie to fasten the boot. Things are looking up.

Hey,

Jeannie ain't no Yankee. Ohio was just a territory at the time of the war.

Cheers to Jeannie for that vac belt. I did it and it works like a champ. Perfect fit.

Yes, Lone Star has 928 stuff, but not an end all selection like the big 3.

I used them when they source it for cheaper than the big 3, OR I need the part yeasterday. They're not as good as the big 3, but they're about as good as I've found in Houston. And belive me, I've looked in Houston.

If you want the number and address, PM me and I'll have to look for them.

I enjoyed calling the dealer today and canceling my order. It was fun to tell the counter man that the parts he was attempting to order are NLA. Wish he would have known that so he didn't spank my card for $125.00 needlessly....Oh well. Not only did I get the info here on this BBS so I could move forward. I also got some info from my new parts guy today that may have saved me from certain disaster.

Thanks Mark!

I have bought from:

928 Intl - Very helpful and professional
928Spares.com - Nick is more a 928 buddy than just a source of used parts (based in the UK)
Official Porsche Centres - yes some things you have to buy from them, and I've always found their service to be excellent, even if the prices are often comical
Berlyn Services - a UK independent supplier of new parts, very useful when I can't justify the international shipping charges and import duty if I were to order from 928 Int

Don't scare me, please... But my car cannot read the rennlist, so it does not know I wrote it here! There is still hope...

Actually, so much has been done to this car already, I don't even know what else could break, except maybe for some aging rubber parts.

Hit 80k miles last weekend and celebrated with a burst of 120mph. That was fun!!!

My parts shelf and car have been graced by items from all threee of the big guys. Most stuff comes from Jim at 928 Int'l. Usually buy some things from Devek when we visit for their August gathering. DR has supplied brakes and pieces that Jim didn't stock. The dealer has supplied some items, like drain plug gaskets and a dipstick when I first got the car and didn't know any better.

IMHO, we need to keep all three alive and well, because of the variety of stuff that is common like parts, but also for the individual contributions each has made. So far, the convenience of having 928 Int'l relatively close by nets them the bulk of the business that I do. I like the fact that the stuff is there, in stock, and easy to put a hand on. I usually "age" my parts for a while before I install them too... That's why I have a parts shelf I guess.

So far all have been excellent.

I have learnt that these are all good people. Some are more arrogant, and some are more friendly. And some are 100% reliaable. But they are all good suppliers.

One thing needs to be mentioned. I have never had any kind of problem with International. Period. Mark and Jim are some of the world's nicest, and also most knowledgeable, people. If I could, I would likely move my home just to be closer to them than I am. Porsche .... there is no substitute. You only get what ... maybe 70 years on this earth? .....May as well spend those few years in a Porsche.

Sniff....snifff....I'm feeling left out Heinrich

By percentage it's probably 928 Specialists and 928 International (about 50/50), then Heinrich , then Ebay (when I find a steal on something used). I've bought a few special aftermarket items through Susan at Devek, but I'm not in that region and the cheap bastard in me likes to save on shipping.

Mmmmmm.....Jeannie.......phase into "Waynes World" dream scene......... Jeannie has taken the place of Donna Dixon as the object of Garth's (played by me) fantasy woman (Lucky me I know both women well in real life but not Biblically ). The wind is blowing through Jeannie's hair, "Dream Weaver" is playing in the background and....ZREEEEECKK (sound of needle scratching across a record) Ooooooops...Sorry DR......

OK...back to reality.
