Default Loose Front Seat Backs

My front seats seem to be a little on the loose side both on the bottom, but much worse the seat backs with a lot of play. Any idea how to tackle this?

I saw on 964 posts a kit to replace the plastic washers on the seat bottoms, but nothing on the seat backs. Any help is appreciated

I had a similar issue on my passenger seat back. Turned out to be just a loose bolt that attaches the seat back to the base. I had to remove the seat to tighten it. I applied some blue loctitte first.

Nate,

sound like I might have the same issue as it is my passenger seat that is the big culprit. I mean the sucker can rock. The bottom feels kinda solid, but the back is running a party of its own... i can push it around and it just wallows and pops.

I will try to get around to removing the seat (in this beautiful weather) and will update accordingly.

Thanks again for the pointer; let's hope it is a straight forward fix.

Nate,

I removed the seat from the car, but cannot find the bolts that attach the seat back to the frame. Any clue on where those are?

Ok so kind of giving up on this sucker... but the movement on the back rest seem to be in all directions... i can push it up and down as well as pivot front/back. I wonder if the guide pin is worn out or there are missing teeth inside the backrest itself as its attachment to the bottom frame is quite tight.

Upon inspection, everything seems to be solid except movement/play around the pivot point. The bolts attaching the backrest to the lower frame are super tight. All the movement seems to be centered around the guide pin allowing movement in all directions. This should not be the case unless something is loose or worn.

Does anyone know the function of those guide pins (item 3 from diagram) that bring together the backrest to the seat bottom allowing the rotation movement? Do they wear or is there any wear item around them in inside the seat? any way to adjust them? etc.

Feedback is appreciated, also if anyone has an empty backrest frame picture would be great (WSM sucks in this dept).

Gary and Jerry,

Thank you both for your assistance with the writeup and photos. I will do some investigations accordingly and get back to you ASAP. Oddly enough, my driver seat is ROCK solid. The passenger is loose. I checked a friend's 928 today and it exhibited the same issue.

I will keep you all posted.

Hello,

Unfortunately I have not. There seems to be a bit of a slack in the backrest of the passenger seats of my S4 and GT. Was not able to truly make them rock solid with zero play.
