87 five speed, trying to change the crank shaft sensor on the flywheel, removed the hamper and pressure regulator then went after the sensor, took out the Allen head and tried to remove. Thought I traced the cable to the right side of the fuel fail to a plug, so trying to unplug the cable plug fell apart! Finally got the sensor to move and with PB Blaster and a lot of twisting the sensor came out! But I found that the plug was not the one I had undone and tracing it it seems to run up under the manifold, so what is this for and have I really screwed up?
Plug and three male pins, sensor does not go to this plug.

The PS injector rail is in dreadful shape. The knock sensor bracket is missing and the connection to the fuel regulator is crushed. You need to replace it.
Well it was the rear knock sensor(KS) plug, and some of the gas hoses look bad, just got new ones in. I did clean the grounds on the big white wheel bracket. So what I have done is used the left side bolt that is longer to anchor the knock sensor, the white wheel is free and I can plug the KS into the left side harness. I realize that it is in the wrong spot but hope to fool the computer while I get this car going. So all I see happing is retarded spark or maybe it will fool the ECU but I will lose some knock protection. I will not be racing or running hard so I think I can get by with this until the intake is pulled for a rework. Is this totally dangerous? I really just want to get the car running for now. New hoses, reworked ECU and MAF, cleaning all grounds and fuses with three new relays.

The fuel line is OK it is the angle that makes it look crushed, the KS bracket is missing. Here you see the placement of the KS under the shiny new longer bolt next to the white wheel.

Yeah, that's not where the knock sensor goes. It goes in the center of the engine, almost directly below the butterfly in the throttle body.
If you remove the large rubber elbow to the intake throttle, you can gain enough access to put in a new rear knock sensor.
It does not take a lot of imagination to understand that if you want to have a fighting chance of getting that 928 running anything like correctly you most likely need to pull the inlet manifold and sort out the inevitable deficiencies that are going to be lurking in there. That the knock sensor male plug fell apart is not surprising- it is a common ageing thing - pretty much an assured sign that such is well overdue not to mention the visuals.
The fact that the knock sensor is mounted where it is beggars belief and one cannot help but wonder what else may be lurking beneath.
Stuck to my plan, got the air filter on(the poor fitting K&N) and all new fuses, and she cranked right up! Now the windows do not work, drivers is down and pax is up! But a couple of runs up the runway and she seems OK. So got a air filter on order and I guess this weekend take a look at the window switches!
Studying videos of the intake removal, also hope to make an Atlanta 928 meeting when one comes up.
