To 928blur's question, maybe it was stored in a space too small and dark to get good pics, and they moved it outside to get pics?

"I agree that a damp climate could have slightly damaged the leather (and the crazy checkerboard)"
The only cow that died for that car was the one used for the steering wheel. Other than that, 1000 naugas were sacrificed for all the other materials. I used to have an interior like that in my '79 928 and it was nauga.

Who knows...this could be the real deal.
It has the original tires Pirelli CN 36 but I question the interior especially the back and they way the tool cover has been assembled. It looks sloppy and also, is there any leather in this car anywhere?
I would guess they have the car outside to take pictures as some pic's do show a car carrier in the background.
Interesting indeed.

After seeing the additionial pictures I want it even more. Please, let someone rain money down on me!!!
This car looks as original as it gets - it even has the early trunk cover, the net between the rear seats, and the old tool cover. No side moldings, no sunroof, and Pasha cloth interior. This is 928 history n its purest form!
The only thing I'm not crazy about is the black carpet. But that could be changed to the matching cork pretty easily, if it really had to be done...

That car was made when Porsche really cared just about sports cars and was just starting to get into the upper end GT car. Look even for being the top of the line the luxury is minimal (vinyl seats and velour pasha fabric) it was not till the early 80's that Porsche got options crazy.

It was not Porsche that got options crazy, it was the customers who wanted increasingly individualized cars. Porsche would not offer the cars that way, if there were no buyers for them.
You have to keep in mind that the automobile market is a global one, and racing fans in America are not what keeps the company going. Cars are bought quite differently over here than they are in Europe, for example.
While you are entitled to your opinion that Porsche is putting too much luxury into their cars, you should ask yourself when you last ordered a brand new car (Club Sport, GT, or all options delete) from the factory...

Hi guys – this is my first post and I have been lurking for months now reading everyone else’s comments. I too have a hard time believing that this car is original 1,233 miles. I purchased a 84 S Auto that had 18,734 miles on it and as far as I can tell they were all original. What makes me suspicious of this one on e-bay is that there is dirt build-up on the edge of the air filter – you just can’t get that in 1,233 miles. Also based on my experience once you buy a car like that you need to change all the tires (they will be hard as a rock), need to do the timing belt, rad hoses, and like I just found out the BEHR rads don’t last more than 20 years. So even if you get it at a deal you still have to invest probably 4-5 k to fix the things that go sideways.
Ahh well – I just love my Porsche and when I was 16 going to high school I used to pass by the Porsche dealership and say to m myself one day I will have a 928 like that – that day came and I have never regretted it since.
Cheers,
Eric

Eric: Your car would look really good in my garage, next to the '91 S4.
I love the '84 model year - the last with the lesser complicated engine, but the first with the better 4-speed automatic. And yous seems to be the nicest example around... Congratulations!!!
