There's a neat website in the UK that tracks the numbers of cars (by model) on the UK roads using government road tax data:
Search results for 'porsche 928' - How Many Left?
Clicking on each model then gives a more detailed breakdown; FYI "SORN" on the graphs means "‘Statutory Off Road Notification" which means that the car still exists, but is officially "off the road" - so maybe project cars?
Obviously, the vast majority of these will be RHD cars.
So...710 in 2020, down from 1,080 ten years ago....
I've still yet to another "in the wild" over five years of ownership, despite the UK being pretty small compared to the US!

I think the average ‘still on the road’ for Porsche is over 50%, but given the lack of love for 928s and front-engined generally I’d guess 25% tops surviving.

in the 6 years i've been driving mine i've only seen 4 on the road here in denver area - i've seen 2 in salvage yards and one on a dealer lot - and i had one crushed myself - so seems like not many around these parts

Well, if we're discussing sightings, and local cars...
I've met 4 Rennlisters in my area in person.
Taxman (Jim) has a red 89 S4 auto. WI Cruiser (Roger) has a Champagne (I think) 85. Hacker Pschorr (Erik) has like six of them. Shannon (can't remember R/L username) has an early Euro that wasn't on the road when I saw it a couple years back.
There's another guy on FB who I haven't met in person yet who has one.
I've never seen another one locally, except when I meet up with Jim every month or so for coffee.
I drive truck, long haul and I see maybe one or two a year out on the road. I actually see more Ferraris & Lambos (all models combined) than 928s.

I would estimate in the Houston, TX area we have about 20 cars that run.

In very stark contrast, 99.98% extinct:

Some days I have too many, and others not enough.
Most days I'm feeling darn lucky to have a collection offive six to care for...
But there are probably 16,000 that I would consider owning!

I have a tough time justifying just the one I have. I think there are less than six running here in Bend, where there is ironically a pretty large Porsche-per-population ratio. We are at a bit over 100k in town, plus we have the extended metro area covering three counties. I've had hands on three here, besides my own, that I'd say are road-worthy.

At Copart today six dead 928's are available... All of them are screaming. "SAVE ME"...
