Im not for staying or leaving, but nothing's changed...the knowledge is still -here-...you can search it...it's pretty rad.

I'm part of the 928 Docs FB page. It's where Roger, Sean, and a whole bunch of others gathered after Sean got the boot.

Actually it has changed. It used to be about the people and the cars. now it is 100% about the revenue and playing like facebook and twitter, banning people you don't like because they don't think like you.

 

Banning people whose posts have been 99.99% positive and helpful,while at most 0.001% controversial (to a few maybe!) hardly seems like a good way to build traffic on a site. Guess I spent too much of my professional career in Marketing and Business Management to understand that model!

I am out of Prison for the time being - still waiting for some rules from the mods about what I can or cannot post.
So far if I say anything it is construed as supporting my company and forbidden.
I chose these words carefully and hope I have not infringed anything. As I am posting as a private member and I see nothing in the post that should be an issue.

It still is. This ONE THREAD isn't, but..that's because people don't want it to be. Take a thread, air out some issue..but this doesn't change anything. Let's not wag the tail.

IB has had a revenue model for years, and as long as people stayed inside their boxes, it was fine. That hasn't changed. I got my dick slapped once, I knew why. I was pissy about it for a few minutes, but then I moved on. I...moved....on....

Misunderstandings without (and sometimes even with) COMPLETE context of the problem always end up this way on the internet...it's like this is the first time people have see this happen, and understandably because THIS one is more in everyones front yard, they react. And that understandable. But I'm not drawing lines because it's pointless, this is between Roger and IB, they're adults, they will get through it.

There is no them/they out to get anyone. Even if you subscribe, it's not -your- platform. It's theirs...and mostly a volunteer managed "organization"...things happen, and with level heads, things generally get worked out...because of the nature of the "organization".
Note, I would have said the same thing a day ago, and look..its being worked out because REASONABLE people are talking, not reacting].

And that's my point, people wanting to invent a culture battle over an issue that doesn't even exist in the first place. It's like people that got upset and spent energy over the Mr Potato Head noise. There was 'no there, there'.

We don't have to agree and I'd still buy you or anyone else a beer, but we all choose the level of BS and conflict in our lives. And how IB deals with people that they truly believe have broken a rule, isn't a calorie rich issue to join the boat parade over for me. But, be your own judge of what you allow to take the **** over.

Zero offense to anyone on either side..RL will still be here tomorrow, and the days/years after, with a goldmine of accumulated information, and we will still smile at the monthly oil thread...

 

Good to see you back! As others (lots of others) have said; you contribute an enormous amount of very valuable information to this group. IMHO the last ban was completely uncalled for.

 

My .02 observations offered. Suddenly there are a bunch of sponsored and I might add totally unrelated to car culture ads here. Those are TOTALLY ANNOYING now that I've renewed.

Whoever said that we are a minor part of the overall platform (911 threads) is wrong. I don't know what they are using as a guage, but Look at the # of participants in any thread and we are by far the most active, maybe not the deepest pockets, but the numbers aren't being analysed properly as we feed other forums as well. I've added a "different" Porsche and frequent 2 other threads regarding that car and the DIY participation there is tiny compared to here. The Shark and its community of owners and vendors are pretty much still in touch with reality, at least the ones I value compared to the P-dealer driven vendors overall.

This talk about moving to some other platform happens about once a year and blows over while the quality of the platform per se continues to slide, this is not a slam at the people but IB. How long have we complained about the "search" function??? Maybe this controversy will finally do it; "it could happen" - Judy Tenuta, a great comediene BTW. The 928oc platform is dormant, but an ideal and owner-operated group that would be ideal; the seed is there just waiting.

This will be great fodder at Carlisle. Until Rick breaks out the his cornhole "equipment" - then the real comedy will ensue.
