Hi,
I have had my cam belt , water pump and bearings changed a couple of months ago , and when I start up , there is after about 3 minutes (once engine gets up to temp) a rubber smell and smoke coming from the drivers side (UK RHD), This has happened on the last 3 start ups and I do not want to drive it for fear of a fire starting . Would anyone have any idea , could this be connected to the cam belt change as this problem was not there before ??. I cannot see any thing obvious and it is definitely not fuel or oil smell, and no obvious leaks .
help , help, help.
many thanks Trevor in UK , (it is a 1981 s2 ,4.7)

Could be a seized air pump but might be a seized water pump!
Take off the air intake tubes and look for rubber dust in the breather tubes.

My guess would be that the cam belt is not tracking correctly Was the tensioner replaced/ rebuilt, This is just a guess if it is truly a rubber smell. do not drive the car if it is an interference engine. did you do the belt yourself? Is the shop you took it to reputable? Hard to guess without digging in and removing the timing belt covers. Does the smoke still show after the engine was stopped? Remove one belt cover and see if the belt is damaged. Sorry, I see it is not interference. As ken says, it must be a belt burning, but why?

take out the air cleaner and tap it onto white paper,
if you see lots of little black dots thats rubber being sucked out of the belt run,
dont start the engine till the cam belt cover on the right side has been removed post pictures of what you see.

Could also be that they didn't get the alternator belt properly tensioned and that it's slipping.
