It’s a cool looking car. Definitely styling from the mid - late ‘80’s. I have no idea what the base is but I would guess it is an early 911 or 914 that was in need of a lot of cosmetic and probably other work, just a mule for the build out of something much nicer to look at and cruise in. But I guess anything could be underneath that kit.
In the mid 80’s Porsche started building limited numbers of the 911 Turbo Slant Nose cars; they were amazing to see and very expensive and rare, still are today. So people started getting the front slant nose fenders from Porsche or from specialty suppliers along with a set of Turbo rear fender flares and having their cars converted. This car was definitely inspired by the 911 Slant Nose.
OTT kits like the one on that car were also available, but you had to be a maniac with no taste to build a car like that, and yet it would have been so awesome back in the day. Think Gemballa 911’s and such. FWIW, I’ve never seen that exact kit with the 928 bumpers, but they were sleeker and more modern than the 911 bumpers of that day so it’s kind of cool that they chose to use a genuine Porsche styled part instead of fabricating one or using the 911 version; if it is a 911 or 914 base.
Nice project for a weekend boulevard / beach cruiser, definitely and eye catcher!
Looks like a kit car with front and rear 928 bumpers, don’t see much else that looks original if there is a 928 underneath.
The 928 taillights/rear bumper might be the only part that is 928.
Nice touch painting the rubber beading...yuck.
There's no way there's a 928 engine, in the front of that mess.
I'm guessing that the 914 door handles (the front portion) tells the origin.
At least you can tell what it started as....
I'm betting that paint job cost a bunch of money....looks pretty darn smooth and flat.
It would be a horror story to try and match one panel....you'd have to paint the entire car if you got a door ding!
That car is clearly built on a 914 base from the door and the door handles on them and why it's at George's place. Looks like a Porscharossa and I've never seen a kit like that on a 914 - might be hand fabricated.
The classic lines of the 914 have certainly aged better than that have. You should have looked under the rear - probably would have seen an engine setup similar to this.
Maybe not as offensive as it seems. 928 bumper, 911ish dash, 914ish door latches and 914s all over the place, but I think this is how that car came off the line.
