Default Lost key

I lost my ignition key. I know there is a thread on replacing it, just can't find it

I know I will find it as soon as I get a new one made but not before.

The dealer/factory or Roger can get you one based on the VIN.

That's assuming:

1 - Ignition is still keyed as it came originally.
2 - Factory records are correct.

If the locks have been changed, or if the factory records are off, this won't work.
I went the 'dealer route' with success, but not everyone has been that lucky.

Otherwise, you can pull a lock cylinder (door is probably easiest) and then disassemble the tumbler blades to get the number sequence.

I think the guy at Keys For Classics can make your key based on the blade numbers. Not sure on that, confirm with him.

Just to confirm, Keys4Classics made my key off of a pic of a badly hand filed key, but wasn't sure it was the right combination. I disassembled the ignition lock (it had damaged blades from the hand filed key...) and they were able to confirm the key combination and make a pair of keys for my car that work beautifully.

I have a good back up key and a wallet key ( safety wired to the up under the rear bumper). I thought there was a shop in Australia that made keys from a PDF file.

If I find that key you may never see that car again

Oh. I got the impression you lost the only key you had.

Yes, Keys For Classics in Australia can make a key from a good pic.

That's if you scan your key and save the image as a PDF file and send that to Keys4Classics. Some have had better luck in the past doing it that way vs. taking pictures. Phone cameras are getting better every day, but when I did the photo approach, it took me several tries before my pictures were good enough for Keys4Classics to use. Great service once I was able to send them a quality picture.

I guess I'm luckier then you, I lost my ignition key also, but they were found in Bill's key drawer in Arizona.... Now just have to arrange to get it back. At least I have the other key at home.

Van, there is also this guy domestically - he is always at Hershey and is the go to. He makes them from a photograph only. I need to get him some pictures because I need a spare (have only 1 key for my 85):

Tony Euganeo (610)-461-0519; 501 Folcroft Ave, Sharon, PA 19079; daskeyman@verizon.net

He is a lot closer than Oz, so cheaper postage. Also, as a PSA - everyone should take good file pictures of their keys and store them, just in case. Never publish the blades in a photo either. (unless it's Rick's key just checking to see if he is following this, haven't seen him for awhile)

Reminds me again about the chastity belt. Confucius Say, "man who looses key gets no new key."
