As long as there are enough GTS around, the choice is very simple: another 928 GTS with Rogerbox.
After 28 years of owning Porsches and 17 years of GTS ownership, there is still no imaginary reason why I would change;
  • I never got stranded
  • All the tools in my garage to work on it
  • 17 years of experience working on mine and other 928s
  • Great aftermarket parts support (people still develop parts or upgrades)
  • Rennlist and PFF in Germany are awesome forums
  • Still a styling icon and a head turner
  • The sound of the starter cranking the V8 is one of a kind. Never failed to put a smile on my face.
  • The last car handmade by Porsche, the built quality reflects this.
  • My kids have grown up with the 928, they see it as a family member.
  • Met some great people with the 928 that are friends today.
  • .....
Yes, there are better and faster cars around but why change if you have the privilege to own and drive what you dreamed as a kid about?

Precisely- well stated!

When my now grown up daughters were small some 20 years ago they asked me why I did not buy a new 911 of some kind. I advised them that I saw no reason to for the very reasons you articulated. On the other hand I told them that if they did not want to go to University I would be quite happy to go out and purchase a coupe of 911 Turbo's in due course- your choice I told them! Needless to say they went to University and I still have the 928- that is what I call a "win-win" situation!

In this ever uncertain world wherein non of us can be sure we are going to be alive and well in a month's time I try to enjoy my 928 best way I can. I have no where to go and no one to impress but then I do not really need either of those parameters to enjoy taking the thing out for ride. Now if only I could get the authorities to give me a 1 hour pass to "really enjoy" driving the thing!

The ride is very similar, both are head turners, equal seating arrangement with equally useless back seats. The TTS is faster, handles better, but that's technology going forward. lastly both were the top model in their day. The 991 TTS is nothing like the older turbo's. It has become much more of a GT car than an outright sports car. Lastly, it's a Porsche with the Porsche build quality and far superior engineering.

The 991TT has, like the 928, a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde personality. It can be a plush cruiser on the way to the track and then at the track it hands GT3s their heads. This was true of the 928 in its day.

All the other Porsche sports cars are what they are. All the time. The subordinate 911 models have less dynamic range. By design. The mid-ship sports cars are hobbled by PAG and by their nature are a “purer” focused sports car experience.

The 991TT does fall short of the 928 in two areas:
- foot box room: no place for your left foot on long drives
- cargo capacity: can’t haul a set of track tires and tools

Agree with Schocki, after being behind the wheel of a 928 for 24 years, still love it and brings a smile , mile after mile!

Many wonderful cars to choose from like the a 996 gt3 or something like a Lancia 037 but i would of ended up with a De Tomaso Pantera.

Just look at it.
