Rally car is getting a rebuild: Heater has been deleted .... long time ago !!
I notice original builder of the car has looped the connection from the back of the engine - round to the front - via a Y piece ..... etc etc
Is this necessary , or could I simply blank off the relevant connections ??
(I can think of two possible reasons to have a loop : a) air bleed path , b) a water path for the time up until thermostat opens)
Reasons to blank : simplicity , and save a little bit of weight ................... every gram helps !!.
I reaslise the number of you who will have left a heater out of your cars .... is a very small number (the odd race car possibly ?) - so I realise I am asking a very small audience ...... anyways !!

When the heater valve is closed (all summer for me) there is no circulation. So there is no need for a loop. Maybe a loop seemed easier than capping both ends.

No more advice without pictures of the rally car!

Just block it off, though you might want to add a bleeder hole so you can make sure there are no trapped air pockets in the head(s).
Here are the bleeders in the old Zombie track motor.

I have no need for a heater over here so run without the heater core connected. I use the stock heater control valve with the actuator arm and vacuum system disconnected. I only open the valve when refilling the coolant. Strictly speaking this should not be required as the block vents through the heads both sides. I found it easier to configure this way.
The valve must be left in the closed condition otherwise the radiator would in effect be partially by-passed!
