Default Wanted 1990-95 dashboard vent piece

See part #2 single piece. Different part numbers for various colors, I don't care what color it is. I could use a couple of these.

I have a set of those exact same pieces but in a kind of silvery carbon fiber pattern if someone is interested, as they won't fit my dash vent style. I can even throw in the matching S4 emblems.

That's not what Andrew's looking for, he's looking for 928 552 309 51, for the '90-95 airbag dash. The big ~36" long insert, NLA new from Porsche.

Correct. Though not necessarily for airbag dash. Also fits 90-95 R.o.W. non airbag dash, which fits in every 928.

I think I have just about figured out how I can make one of these. I have about a ton of ABS plastic in just about the right thickness (3/32 inch) left over as drops from other projects, and I have the tall oven that I made for the air tube project that I think might be tall enough to hang one of these in to heat and soften, and I probably have or can get the correct material to make a male and a female form since I think I will compression form mine rather than trying to work it into the vacu-forming set up. I wonder if mine should be made to fit more snugly than the one pictured, or made kind of loose so it might be covered in leather,

As soon as I get on top of my belly pan project I think I start another how to thread about this. I have a late dash out in the shop so I'll need to take some measurements.

I still have the vent trim in my airbag dash but it doesn't look much like the one shown in the late late non air bag dash just above. I can't tell about the other one shown because I can't see the ends.

Experience has shown this part of the dashboard gets very hot. How hot you ask? Let's ask Roosevelt E. Roosevelt.

" Roosevelt, what town are you stationed in?. "I'm stationed in Poontang." Well, thank you, Roosevelt. What's the weather like out there? "It's hot. Damn hot! Real hot! Hottest things is my shorts. I could cook things in it. A little crotch pot cooking." Well, can you tell me what it feels like. "Fool, it's hot! I told you again! Were you born on the sun? It's damn hot! I saw - It's so damn hot, I saw little guys, their orange robes burst into flames. It's that hot! Do you know what I'm talking about." What do you think it's going to be like tonight? "It's gonna be hot and wet! That's nice if you're with a lady, but it ain't no good if you're in the jungle."

Seriously though. Dashboard temps can reach 170 degrees. As a result, most plastics will warp or become brittle resulting in failure.
Whatever material is selected for a dash part, selection of the right material is paramount.

It's the same part 90-95 airbag or not airbag.

That would be great Jerry. Since this part is NLA and used is scarce it should be a valuable part but I'm not sure how many you cold sell to get back on your mold investment .
As a data point I have sold 4 new and 12 used in the past 30 years

Sorry for the zombie thread revival, but I just saw this. Do people still need these? @drooman did the Facebook lead pan out? I made a silicone 2 part pour mold just literally for the fun of it, and to my surprise my second test casting in urethane was half decent. I would consider a little more tuning to get it to 100% if this is still a gap in the NLA parts world, but otherwise I'll just make a spare for myself and put it and the mold on the shelf until I run out of space.

I am new to casting and made a mistake in the mold design - should have made a true compression or "squish" mold - but the current setup with some workarounds will yield a good piece. I am reluctant to make another mold because this thing is pretty huge, uses a lot of expensive material (>$200!), and very awkward even to move it on the bench.

@Jerry Feather The part appears to be injection molded (possibly using a compression mold) rather than sheet formed. There is a stamp on the bottom that says "PET GF" which I think means "polyethylene terepthalate glass filled". PET is an easily meltable thermoplastic that is very difficult to repair. The part is rigid and surprisingly heavy, and the top visible area has a stippled texture. I think it is going to be difficult to duplicate with sheet forming.

Model on the right, casting on the left:

Thanks Brian. It's a little uglier on the bottom - the vanes had a couple of ragged edges - but likely fully functional as is. 928 DIY continues to lurch onward...
