This is a K Jetronic car. Compression is good. Put a timing light on it. 26 degrees btdc at cranking speed. Used a spark gap tester. Very strong spark. Removed teo injectors. Good spray pattern.

There is too much fuel in the cylinders, somI have removed the plugs and will let it sit overnight.

the fuel has been in the tank for a year, so that is getting drained and replaced with fresh tomorrow

You need to have about 10 degrees BTDC at cranking speed....although with 26 degrees, the engine should cough/try to kick back.
Just to get "closer" to optimum, retard the timing 15 more degrees.

With key on and the engine not cranking, you should have no fuel coming from injectors.
While cranking, fuel flow from injectors should be very minimal....barely anything. (The engine is very dependent on the cold start system to get enough fuel to run the engine, from cranking speed.)

If you are certain the timing is correct disconnect an injector and plug in a noid light to see if the injectors are getting power.

Euro CIS....K Jetronic.
Think low pressure "almost" mechanical injection.
No wiring to injectors.

This mornings update

The gas seemed to smell stale, so I drained the tank. Water...

Blew out the tanks and fuel lines. Tank is filled with fresh fuel.

Timing is set to TDC. Spark plugs are out.

I plan on crankIng the engine to get the stale crap out of the fuel distributor and injector lines. Then will suction the cylinders. I will also squirt a bit of oil in each cylinder to replace the oil on the walls that was surely washed away.

Once it is starting, then I will flush the oil (from yesterday) and refill again.

And of course during all this, my clutch slave cylinder crapped out

NOTE keep your foot off the clutch pedal till after the engine is running,
as with no oil pressure the thrust bearing is not being fed,
no need to cause extra wear on the thrust bearing

Glad it runs! But you need to find a new mechanic...

This is the last time with this mechanic. I brought the car to Baltimore 5 years ago to restore it.

Over that period of time, the shop has been great. They let me use their outside lift after hours, and often their tools.

pulled the engine out last Nov to re-gasket it, and do do some last remaining changes. Then went back to Africa for the winter.

I was finally able to return to Baltimore to put the engine back in the car and button it up 2 weeks ago.

Monday I drive it to Seattle where it will live out it’s days at my yacht club.

So as much as I will miss him, neither myself or the 928 will see him again.

Your very lucky to an extent , if that had been an s4 you would have an expensive head job, due to bent valves !
