Picked up the 81' yesterday, drove it straight thru from the northern latitudes and a different time zone.
19 hour trip including a flat repair, 20 whiz stops - old kidney's -, 'white out' fog from north of Amarillo to well south of Lubbock, and the 1 hour time zone loss. Almost identical to the San Diego Run. Great comments from everyone, where-ever I stopped
Car performed well, all electrics with exception of cruise work as advertised. to include heat/AC.
Shark was slightly over packed , 928 manuals -yipee!-, spare "GOLD" windshield suspension pieces, tran/diff. truss/brace, seals, gaskets, tools, service parts and repair history. SPARE KEY's, TOO!.
Description:
81 MY
White ext.
Brown -deep chocolate- int
4.5L
3-spd Auto.
Side mouldings, which actually look good as an accessory item as the sHARk has no spoiler pkg. Personally, I thought a black spoiler set would have made this 'white' a classic looking example of a 928 in contrast, but as it turns out Everyone thinks this spoiler-less look really accentuates the sHARk 'behind'.
Interior condition: high 8/low 9
Exterior condition : mid/high 9
Engine bayappearance: High 9
Mechanicals, all: Mid/high 9
Drivetrain.: High 9, one glitch
Suspension: undecided, many new parts and handles well, just not as good as Pattycakes????? And has one small quirk.
Electricals: Great! Cruise and kick-down issues only.
Other than that a very, faint whistle at speed from upper right corner of windshield, and or, pass window seal upper fwd. Overall the car has been well maintained if not pampered.
Mieage 96,000
Price: $6000.00
I am pleased, but since this is now my son Zack's sHARk ... guess who has the bigger grin?

Absolutely a super " Dad & Lad" set up! So, is Zack going to be able to hone his mechanical skills by practicing on 'Pattycakes' before touching his new car?

Nicole.
Flicks ... ASAP!
Brett,
Nope. Spring Break was over on Monday. And while Zack really lusted after that Green Euro -That thing was so fine it is now my screen saver/PC background. - he is blown away with the White sHARk.
Ferris & Heinrich,
Danke Schone.
Abby & Brendan,
Back at you, I'm sure your kids will will join the club after the appropriate number of years have passed. You too, Shane!
Pro and Con time.
I had wore out a chair combing Ebay and a dozen other sites.
Factoring in condition, price, insurance, and breaking choices down to...a 60's era cool/muscle car, late model Caddy/Lincoln for size, comfort, multiple airbags, low mileage, complimented by all the bells and whistles, and a 928.
On the insurance.
Pricing insurance for a 16 year old male of the species is a lose-lose situation for any parent...that's a given. Even if Fred Flinstone sold me his ride the insurance would be high $$$$.
Given the breakdown selection of vehicle types we were shopping for the insurance cost's were all strikingly similar.
Insurance was now not a factor!
Vehicle cost wether a 65' fastback stang', a GTO/LeMans convertible-clone-, a 455ci, 225 electra, or any of the Mopars, Chev's, Fomoco era cars in fair to good shape cost as much as, and -more the rule- generally at least half again as much as a 98' or newer (rear wheel drive, AGAIN!) decked out Cadillac.
Watching the auctions and other sites it didn't take long to realize that the common 928 SELLERS complaint (they sell cheap!) was a serious factor in what type of machine was in Zack's future.
When my sHARk buying fever abated and common sense started prying at the door I realised that due to my growing inventory of parts on hand, and the fact that while I am NOT a Master 928 Wrench, I am getting pretty handy at working on these checkbook wolves.
The kicker was that the PO let me call a town meeting at the County Courthouse at high-noon for a public buggering as long as got a take of the gate and concessions, film at 11,( P.O.,you knew I'd do this),
, if I'd part with the King's Ransom of $5000.00.
Prison sex aside, I felt this was to good to be true.
In truth the, PO is a helluva guy who, after owning the car for many years and investing much time and cash had reached a point in his life where his situation and waning fervor for the 928 breed co-incided.
Fortunately for me, our paths crossed and the deal was done.
I actually bought the White for 5K and we agreed on another 1K for the pubs, mountain of parts -couldn't haul it all back-.
Wether you look in the engine bay, underneath -drivetrain, exhaust, suspension, exterior and a bit on the interior- you can see all new seals components, and above all great upkeep efforts. Parts/repairs are backed up with the 'originals' parts/time/reciept hard copies, and came with a set of original and copies of ownership documentation.
To be totally honest this is a cash value $12-$13,000.00 car that would have got an easy $8000.00 in open auction -with reserve- if time was not a limiting factor for the PO. Trust me I still have a little objectivity, and I have traveled far and wide looking at sHARKs. Plus we have all seen the GOD/BAD/UGLY at Frenzy's not putting anyone down just price comparo.
As to a 16 soon to be 17 year old being thrown behind the wheel of a 928:
1. There are so many strings attached to his being in control of the White that some would say"it ain't worth it, man"!
Poor thing! I stood outside with his friends talking about the shark while Zack cleaned his room, bathroom, took out the trash, vacumned, and re-learned how to do laundry. Just to go on his first drive ( it's true...I have no shame).
Ladies and gentleman, my son Zack and I are a working demonstration in the fine Art of Leverage!
If only Archemides knew ...
On the other hand there is a "how long before the 1st ticket pool" and a
"how long before he wreaks it pool" at work -I've heard a rumor that my wife is running one of them- and with the exception of three people on vacation everyone has a piece of the action...Hmmmm...
Socially speaking, and no offence, here, ladies as we all know that the male of the species is worse than any ****, as most men -No Rennlister's, of course- will drop their pants at the bat of an eye. But, the Teen Grapevine kicked in and I can tell you I haven't seen but one or two of the skater/boarder chicks' before let alone what had to be 1/2 the JV Girls volleyball team - three of em'were taller than me!-. and the usual smattering of cheerleaders and their entourages'.
If it wasn't for the heavy scent of Clearasil in the evening air, and a stiff breeze I'm sure all the loose pheremones would have knocked someone over. Zack is going to need a little counseling, here, on the topic of fast cars, and faster women, and true love vs a quikie...

I have nine years to go before Liam gets to put his foot on the pedal of his own shark. I like the leverage part, only way to go! He is gonna love it and hate it!

you're going to have to send pics of THAT public buggering! enjoy your new ride, Zack, and always remember my advice that i sent home with your old man: you can either act like an adult, or you can act like an idiot, the choice is YOURS. enjoy your new honey, your dad is a great man and as i had told him, you all are welcome to come visit anytime (that you want to see air force 2
) anyhow, it was great to go to the sharkansas gig and i know that you'all will have much fun TOGETHER. be safe and use your head.

I've got three teenagers: what's a soul fetching these days?
Actually have been searching for the right 944 for "my" next car. (They're all "my" cars and they are fortunate to have the opportunity to drive them.)
Why a 944? Body parts are cheaper!
