Default engine refitting with flywheel off

Quick question
When refitting an an engine how had is it to fit the flywheel after the engine is in place, or will the driveshaft be in the way? last time I tried to refit it, it was quite effort to align the engine with the bellhousing with the flywheel on as I had new mounts and that extra couple of mm would really help. (yes I had already pushed the transmission back). Car is an 85 S2 auto.

I have always installed/removed an engine with flywheel installed I would suggest you do the same it’s difficult to properly torque the bolts with the driveshaft in the way this is an auto?

Maybe the auto is different, but I put my 16v motor back in with the upper bell housing and flywheel installed. Using the leveler assembly on the engine hoist allowed for enough angle to accomplish that.
