Cross member heat shield refurb
Rennlist Member

I'm bringing a pile of parts to the plater. My thought was to remove the original heat resistant material, save it, get the metal replated, and reinstall the original heat resistant material. However, the heat resistant material is fused to the heat shield and can't be removed without destroying it. Parts are NLA.
The car is not a concours candidate, but I still like originality where there isn't a clear aftermarket upgrade. I like to fix things once and keep them in top shape.
So, best thoughts on how to proceed?
1. Rip off the heat resistant material, plate the parts, get some other heat resistant material to fit.
2. Leave the original heat resistant material in place, clean/grind the metal as best I can and prime and paint with high temp paint.
3. Some other aftermarket solution
Other solutions?

A quick search found this at Summit:

Personally, I'd clean up & replate the pieces and put new material on them.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

The shields themselves are off to the plater along with a bucket of other parts, fuel rail, throttle contraptions, etc.
I do like the ceramic coating idea. I have that on my 993 exhaust and its great. I should have thought about that before sending the parts to the plater.
Thanks for all the suggestions. If this doesn't hold up ceramic will be next.

And you can get DEI 050501 insulation to cut to shape using the template, to replace the original glass fiber /foil insulation.
