Question Does 5sp GT-89 gearbox fit -81

Does anyone know if a 5 sp gearbox from a 1989 GT would fit my -81?
If so do I need the transaxel and shifting mechanism as well?
Is it the same ratio as my old one?
Is LSD an option for -89GT or did all of them have that?
What would be a reasonable price for it?
(about 60000 miles on it)

Thanks Gretch,

Just thought of another question as well.
Will the speedo show the correct speed as well?

It fits it would be nice to have the GT shift lever and rods as well . Ratios are basically the same but a much stronger box with better style sycros .. IF it is a GT box however in 1989 there were 5 speed S-4 cars which in the US had much taller gearing 5 th being more like an "overdrive".

The 1989 GT will be a direct replacement on your year and there is no difference in the speedo hook up. As to value that is hard to say. Does it come with a warranty? Somewhgere from $2k- $4k.

Thanks for the great respons as always on the forum.
It is from a brake yard and the car is a total write off.
They will give three months warranty on it.
Quoted price is 1200 USD.
I searched the register for cars and it appears to be a genuine 928GT.

Colour: Darkblue

Model: PORSCHE 928 GT COUPE

Year model: 1989

Chassinumber: ZZZ92ZKS842061

Sad to see such a nice car wrecked .

Enclosed some poor quality pics, it brakes my hart...

/Peter

Holeeee ****e man....................Damn, just looking at it hurts. Does Chuck Z know about this one? Peter see if the rear wheels are ok, I am looking for a set for Gretch............I just looked at Chuck's site for 89 GT. there were only 3 blue ones and two of them had cashmere interiors. Two of the cars I looked at did not have the clup sport wheels on them.

I wonder which one this is????

Just noticed Peter's location this is not a US 89 GT

Man I hate to see an 89 GT die......no matter where it lives...

That is a very reassuring picture. Very little distortion of the cabin, despite the roof being openned, and as far as those particular occupants were concerned no sign of blood around the door, seat or windscreen - they probably came out ok.
