Had the guy check the number on the box just to make sure it is the right one.
He could not find the G28/55 marked but found this number stamped:

928301802

Does anyone know if this is a box from the 1989GT?

Have them look again. The number should be on the transmission case just below the rear diff. cover.

thanks for the excellent details.
Got them to re-check and they confirm G28552Kxxxxx stamped on the box.
Just ordered it and will have it by friday from the carrier.
Will spend weekend to make the change from old to new.
Any advice on the change process?
Are there any special tools needed or is it straight forward.

And by the way, they told me that there were two people in the care at the accident, both were OK after the accident.
(they visited the junk-yard and looked at the wreck to see what it looked like two days after it happened)
