Default Central warning light behavior is puzzling

Bulb check is fine when key is turned on. Lights go out as expected when car is started. However, a few seconds after the parking lights or headlights are then turned on, the cws lights illuminate. No other warning lights appear. I am able to reset the cws lights and they will remain off. I have checked and rechecked the possible causes of a resettable cws alert to no avail. Also, the expected pod backlighting is erratic when the headlights are turned on; sometimes they light...sometimes they don't. I suspect a poor ground somewhere but I don't know where to begin.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Regards,
John

Need to check your side markers and other lights, if one is out it will set warning. if lightturns on after warning it will go out.

All exterior lights are working. Turning the parking lights on triggers the cws alert after 3 or 4 seconds. If i then reset the cws and advance to the headlights on, the same behavior occurs again.
I recently changed all the pod backlighting bulbs to LEDs but I don't see how that could be related.

John

The central warning in the older cars is not very useful, unless it also lights one of the other warning lights with it. I think there are a few things that can trip it, like low coolant, low voltage, low oil pressure, or low oil level. It doesn't monitor timing belt tension in the older cars. I also don't believe the side markers are monitored in the older cars - the taillights are, but they have their own warning light. When it comes on, you actually have no idea why and I've had mine come on for no particular reason too - so I pretty much ignore it, which makes it a not very useful light.

As long as no other warning lights are lit, I will treat this as just another electrical annoyance with no easy fix.
