Default Exceptional 1981 for sale

1981 Chiffon White, brown leather, automatic. $25,000. It had only 12,150 documented miles when bought in 2014; now nearly 29,000 after drives from DFW area to all 3 coasts. At the annual Third Coast 928 gatherings, it has won People’s Choice once and Best in Class 4 times, including in 2019. All major work since 2014 has been done by Sean Ratts. Prior owner had the telephone dial wheels chromed and tasteful pin stripes professionally painted. Garage kept with no obvious sun damage inside or out. The car is stock, except for the radio and a matching leather storage console between front seats. Call nine for oh deuce deuce deuce ate zero nine won, or email oldfrat at earthlink dot net. Selling because I am too old to drive it like the next owner will love doing.

I’m incapable of taking good pictures of it or posting on public online sales sites. I will find a local who can do that and will add them when I can. Meanwhile I am posting here because some of you have either seen this car or know somebody who has. I would love for it to go to somebody on this site who will treasure it like I have.

Brad

Have seen Brad's 81 Chiffon 928 in person and agree with^^...she's truly an exceptional 81. IIRC most if not all service performed by Sean and thats a good thing. Look forward to pics and GLWTS (I'll post up in the 928's For Sale sticky^^) T

Call for help from the DFW crew to get some great pics and ad copy for Brad's sale effort. Place the post in the Marketplace, and we'll add a link to it in this thread. Someone with FB presence ( I can't...) can share the Marketplace link with the groups there too. This is a prime opportunity for someone looking for a excellent low-miles and well-serviced and documented 928.

Thanks!

I now have the pictures, but also had a chance to talk with Roger about selling it. He recommends I sell it on BAT, with a reserve of $25,000. He thinks it might bid up to $40,000. BAT won't take it if it is for sale anywhere else. I bought the Carfax report on it and it is totally clean and supports the low mileage.

Sean has agreed to check it out to see if it needs any work done.I won't list it on BAT until he has done that and is satisfied it is fully ready for the next owner.

Here's the deal, guys. I would like to see this car sell locally to somebody who will drive it like it deserves. If you want to buy it as is for $25,000, contact me and let me know. Test drive and inspection no problem. Otherwise, I will post here when it goes on auction on BAT and this offer is over.

Keep in mind that BaT sets the reserve.

I have no clue how they decide what the reserve will be, but you don't get to tell them where it will be.

I am not in any way disputing or questioning that number (if anything, it's a bit low).

It sounds like a car that supports that reserve, and I’ve seen Alex’s chiffon white, and this one sounds even better. I agree with Rogers assessment of a high potential sale figure. It is true BaT sets the reserve, but those reserves have become quite high lately.

Thanks for those positive responses, guys! But BAT will not set the reserve on this one. They will either accept mine or they will lose the ability to sell it. I think it is a very fair price.

I have no need to sell it. I am a 75 year old widower. None of my kids can handle this car or need the money it might sell for, so I don't care what it sells for from my estate after I am gone.. I would like to see it sold soon to a person who will drive it like it needs, If you are that person, jump on it. If not., enjoy watching the BAT auction.

Fair enough.

As I said, I thought that number was a bit low.
I just know that some people have stated they were going to 'put the car on BaT with a high reserve', not understanding the process.

GLWS, it's going to be a bit sad to lose someone who insists on treating the car as it was supposed to be treated.
Not just sitting in the living room, being rubbed with a diaper.

Thanks for that, Joe, and for all the help you have given me since I bought the car.
