What's this behind the center console?
1980 Manual Trans
So I’m removing the interior from my new-to me 1980, which is very rough. I have no idea what the POs may have done or not done with the wiring, other than a terrible aftermarket stereo install. I removed the center console to get a better look at the wiring, and came across something that doesn’t make sense, to me anyway. In the pics you can see the “Micro Changeover Switch”, and “Interior sensor” still attached to the back of the console. There is a four wire plug that connects the two. Where does this connect to the rest of the wiring harness? I don’t see any other plugs or missing connectors, or cut wires, so how would it get power? Am I missing something?
In the second pic there is some kind of metal bracket that someone pop riveted to the bottom of the center vent opening of the console. Part of an OEM component that was relocated by a PO? Or probably another aftermarket accessory of some kind, which can be discarded?
TIA

I don't think those are supposed to be plugged together. Some early year cars through about '83 had a 2 position vacuum pod to close (or half close) the console flaps

Wow, so much for wire colors from the harness to the switch...
My understanding is that you need positive and ground to two circuits here - sensor and fan. Both should run continuously. The fan is easily pulled and tested, but I believe NLA in OEM. Sensor is available, I believe.
In our 1985, the wiring for this drops down from behind the center vent into the center console and merges in with a larger bundle. I can’t see how your system connects to the CE panel. Maybe PO got tired of hearing noisy fan and wanted a shutoff option?

You're missing the double vacuum pod for the center console. That is what that microswitch controls.
The temp sensor and fan needs to be reconnected to its original wires which are most likely buried in the loom somewhere.
Quick question though. Does your 80's AC head have numbers for the temp or just a blue to red gradient?
If it has numbers that console is correct and the wires should be present, if it has the gradient that console is incorrect and the wires wont exist.
Those are part of the auto climate control system used from 80 until early 83

Concerning the head unit, the fan switch has the five preset locations and numbers. Are you referring to the fan switch, or the temp slider? The temp slider is a slide switch.

An Auto AC car would have an electric motor that controls the internal temp flaps and not the cable seen in this picture. Your system was used from 80-82 FYI if you need to source parts for it.
The center console you have is incorrect for your model, hence why those 2 parts are plugged together.
You should have a 2 pin microswitch in place of the 4 pin one currently there and also have a manually controlled center vent flap.
You can replace these parts in your existing console as they are all interchangeable. and come out with a few screws.
