Default 928 gts engine

Hi guys !
My father has a Porsche 928 gts 1995 low mileage example, but the engine was blown when he got it.
The question is, do you guys know anyone who sells 928gts engines?(Europe)
Thanks

You have an opportunity to fix the engine and the oil burning issues that plagues the GTS models. If I was in your position I'd try to find a local Porsche 928 enthusiast to rebuild the engine in consultation with an experienced engine builder here in the USA. A replacement may be hard to find and will have the same issue.

As for the engine it is garbage, The smartest thing is to replace the whole thing.

Your definition of garbage must be all-encompassing.

GTS engines are rare finds and to have any chance of finding one you really need to be looking across the entire planet. The problem is that way more engines self destruct due to thrust bearing failure [ a common problem with automatic transmission models] than cars that get written off in crashes with the engine still intact. That and as I am aware, Porsche do not offer new/rebuilt engines any longer.

If nothing else, this list probably has way more probability of finding where such an engine may be located and you just might just be in luck on any given day depending on who spots your post.

For sure finding such is not going to be an easy task and best wishes for a successful outcome.

What type of damage did the engine experience?

What is the nature of the problem with the engine, and which parts exactly do you need?

Automatic or manual gearbox and do you need a clear engine type stamp?
I ask because I know an automatic GTS engine collecting dust, but the number has been faked and would need to be erased.

Where are you located?

Manual or automatic? What's the purpose of the car, to restore the car to maximum value or to hot-rod it? What's the condition of the "blown" engine? You got any measurements or photos, there's so many different ways that a 928 engine may blow itself up?

When you write 'fix it' do you mean swap engines? Or do you really mean "FIX IT?"

Anyone that can actually 'fix' a 928 32v engine that's been sitting for decades after 'blowing up' and who would stand behind their work would not offer a firm-fixed price for the work unless it's the cost of a new GTS engine which was, IIRC, $55,000 (USD) in 1998.

They might offer a firm-fixed price for removing the engine, disassembling it, and estimating the eventual repair, reassembly and re-installation price.

I have a "core" high mileage (180,000 miles) 5 speed GTS engine (running great when it was removed), which I purchased from 928 International. I PAID $7500 and was overjoyed to get it....these engines are super, super, super rare, in the US.

It would take a minimum of $25,000 to do a high quality rebuild on it (plus the $7500 cost of the "core")....and I would insist that the old engine be shipped back here, so I could "harvest" any of the still usable pieces. At that point, I would refund the value of any recovered pieces. from the $7500 cost of the "core".

The rebuilt engine would be run on my 928 engine test stand and have the initial break-in performed, be confirmed it runs perfect, has no water or oil leaks. Detailed video of the engine running on the test stand would be sent.

If you check on my reputation, you will find that I'm one of the premier 928 engine builders.

Here in Germany an full engine overhaul with good bores and Pistons is 10-15.000 €. If the Engine has serious damage Gregs price is very reasonable.

If a GTS core is worth up to 7.5k and a low miles S4 engine (that is better engineered and manufactured anyway) on eBay is 2.5k, the only reason to even look at a GTS engine is the resale value of the car.
