Default This 928 is getting me in big trouble

I sure hope everyone here is happy, David Floyd included. I was happy just driving my car around, enjoying the sumptious sound of the big v8, on occasion blowing by a Mustang or a camaro that got a little frisky. Then I found this web site and saw David's car.
Is my grass cut - nope. How's the garden going - what garden ? Motorcycle put back together yet - ahhhh, it is coming little slower then I thought.
Why. Cause now every spare minute is now on the car or reading about the car. How could I have possibly thought my engine bay was alright - just look at how dirty it is. How could I even thought for a moment these wheels were good enough. they need painted badly. So much to do and just so little time in a day.
My wife has actually threatened to take the car to work with her so I would get things done around here. I still have my Xmas lights up for crying out loud.....but I just HAVE to finish the other wheels...........and clean up that engine bay, and wash her of course and ......................

:-) You guys are experiencing the passion we all are stuck with. Remember when you were a child and you got your first erector set, or your first balsa plane kit, or your first pc? The thing is, this passion is life-long. My dad was consumed by it, as am I. No turning back Don.

My wife told me that sometime she feels she is in competition with the car for my attention. I think my wife just out maneuver me. She said, lets get you a new 928 so you don't have to fix it so much. As a result, I sold my car and now I'm driving a little piece of crap to work and no Porshce. I am constantly looking for a replacement Porshce. Now she is saying, lets save up more money for a newer one. I think I'm being out flank again.

Default wife

I gave her a great present. I took her for a ride in the 928. I thought that was pretty generous of me. Next year , I MAY let her drive it.
Actually, I am now trying to talk my 15 year old daughter into a beater 944 when she turns 16. Then, as she tires of it, I can add it to the one car collection.
I think another Porsche in the driveway is going to be a neccisity so I can drive one while working on the other....
I am going to drive daughter by David's car and show her that to help her decide.

So it shouldn't be any problem someday when she finds a new Cayenne in the driveway...

How lucky you are. I doubt I'll ever here, my girlfriend say something like that. She thinks the Porsches are very nice and scary fast. But something overly expensive need constant TLC and just another car from her point.

Speaking of priorities , I drive by this house in our neighborhood , the guy has a really nice looking early 70's vette in the driveway nice pearl white paint on her. Thing is it is always in the driveway, I wonder what is in his garage while this nice vette is exposed to the elements. the other day his garage was open to show his wife's minivan , and a ford focus in the garage. Talk about not having your priorities straight. I think I would be looking for a new wife if I had to leave my 928 in the driveway so that my wife had a spot for her POS cars in the garage.

I think my cars have felt the same way about girlfriends over the years...

At least, if the car starts to get too expensive you can park it in the garage and save up to fix it. GF's, on the other hand, require instant attention. The only option beyond that is upgrade.

Similar thread to this story:

I was in the local 928 mechanics shop a few months ago waiting for my "new" 87 to be looked at [don't know enough to even break it at this point..]. I was hiding from my wife, she thought I was at work. No way I was going to tell her I was spending more $$ on the car. So in walks another guy with his 944. He pays cash and tells the shop owner, "Have to use cash so my wife doesn't find out.."

She laughed and introduced the two of us. She said that this was a common theme. I suggested she open a bar at the shop so we could be comfortable while hiding...

Oh good I'm not alone.

Hey Old & New, I would agree with you, but her logic does work that way.

Hey Red UFO, if all Porsche owners can find a girl that will put up with our obcession, count yourself lucky. And how is that business going.

This is how i do it..
I keep a little bank account on the side so to speak. I call it the "Skunk Works" account

Electronic "e-statements" for the account and the associated visa. NO paper trail LOL.
I payroll deduct X amount from my check each month and it goes directly to the account. The money is never missed as the balance remaining goes into OUR bank account. Any extra money that i get for this reason or that goes to the Skunk Works as well. Over time if i dont tap into it, i can buy stuff for the car and the money gone is never noticed.....uh..until the UPS man comes to the door, then i have to make sure im off that day LOL

BTW..an engine in a crate is hard to hide.

The issue my wife has, IF the package is discovered is.. "but that is OUR money dear!!".
Im like, "BZZZZZZZZzzz....sorry, play again" That account, that money is MINE.PERIOD...If i have to i work a little OT to feed it i will.

She then huffs and puffs.
" well i dont have an account like that for my "stuff" (aka..Coach purses..Longerberger baskets...Shoes etc etc)." to which i reply, "well, perhaps you should start one then DEARRrrrrrrr!"

The discussion ends until the next time. Actually it has ended like that several times

eh..they get over it ( i still hear about the motor i bought though...that will take a while i think) She knows the car is my hobby and like many of you have mentioned a life long goal and passion. In the long run, she's OK with it. 9 times out of 10 she knows where i am on a Friday evening....with my German Girlfriend.

Get this.

My fiance would rather me own a pick up. More precicely a Ford F-150. I owned one when we got together. I didn't know she even cared that much.

Well, I now have the 928, and we're still together. The 928 zips me over the Texas landscape to here faster than the pick up ever did, and for less money, so all is well, for the most part.

However, the next vehical on my list is most probably an F-250, with the turbo desile...
