Default Blower Box Reseal: This Isn’t a Factory Part, Right?

This shield is a homemade rodent guard of some kind, yes? When removing the blower box, it lifts up from under the hood, correct, so this mesh has got to go?

Nope, that's legit factory screening, 928 504 353 02. The alarm horn is hidden back in there.

Thanks, Rob. It was mere seconds from being clipped with tin snips before I thought to check in here.

I thought the same on my ‘89. Compared it to my other cars. Alarm horn back there.

Here is another view.

NOTE if resealing the blower box.
the blower box drops down after the CE panel is folded down and covered with a towel and its supports are removed,
and the 3 anchor screws are removed from the blower, one inside and 2 outside.

Once the blower box is out of the way the blower will also come through the same hole,
so you dont take either of these parts out the top

I was actually crazy enough to install a NEW alarm horn behind that shield when I refurbished my recirc airbox. That is definitely the factory shield for the alarm horn.

It's really good for dropping the bolts for the blower behind.

...and spending the next 15 minutes fishing it out with a magnet.

Got the box out. When resealing it, do you put the strip caulk over and around the bolt holes as well? The old sealant did, but it seems like that would gunk up the threads.

One of the bolt holes lead into the cab right above the fuse panel.

Not something you want with the potential to leak, imo.

I looked at the original gasket. With that as a guide for material and general shape, I used a high quality closed cell foam weather stripping and copied it. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but it's what worked for me.

I put the sealant around the bolts hole don’t worry about the threads the 3 M will seal I don’t recommend the closed cell foam for this to seal the blower box use it for flap seals
the blower box needs a watertight putty you should check the CE panel after it rains

It's been good so far, and that's been several months ago.

What's on there now is a better than what I took off, original seal didn't have much to it.

I'll definitely keep monitoring it.
