Default Center flap actuator parts

I need to either rebuild or replace the double center flap vacuum actuator. The part itself is NLA (not "in LA" ), however I was told that Ford, or some other manufactuer uses the same rubber baffles. Does anyone still know where to get those, and/or a part #? I DID try searching, but couldn't find what I needed. Thank you very much!!

Dwayne is going to be your new best friend. Amazing photos. Step by step instructions. This is not a job for the faint of heart. But if you are mechanically inclined and willing to take your time, it is straightforward.

Roger has the diaphragms needed to rebuild the actuators. I would give him a call to discuss your needs. The other suppliers might also have the goods, too.

I am suprised your car has the double center vacuum actuator - 928 573 094 02.
It must be an very early 83 but possible of course.

The actuator has not been available for some time so I suspect it is NLA. Even if it were available the price of $149 would put most of us of buying one.

I beleive I have found the diaphgams that will work but have not completed the test. If you want to work with me to overcome this issue and end up with free diaphragms let me know.

For Roger and anyone else interested, here are some pic's of what I have going on.

Anyone who knows how to get the two halves apart, that would be great. Picture #3 shows a metal rod holding the two together, and is pressure fitted into each half. The upper diaphram can't be removed without getting that rod free.

Couldn't that Diaphram be repaired? Its just low pressure vaccum. Like with a bicycle innertube repair kit? Just a thought.

I'd think the ancient rubber wouldn't take a repair well.

I was thinking making something with cut up water balloons but I may not go there if there's some other solutions. I'll be digging into ALL of mine when I've got my dash out to swap in my alcantara one.

Remember guys that this actuator is a special two way unit with a twin diaphragm. Only used on cars 83 and older.

On the later cars the center flap has a single actuator and we have the diaphragms for that and the footwell actuator.

That's the company that has the diaphragms for the double uint. Until they arrive I will not be able to see if they fit or not. Fingers crossed.

The other unit they sell is for the recirculation actuator only and does not fit the center, footwell or defrost actuators.

I managed to find one of the new double actuators at a dealer in SLC.
Once I receive that I can then figure out how to remove the smaller diaphragm.
Looks like the spring pushes up against the large washer. If you push the spring away from the diaphragm it should release it so you can pull it off.

The larger diaphragm looks identical in size to the recirc. unit.

Hello Roger,

I pull up this old thread because in my 928 model 1981 that actuator most probably has a similar leak.
The center console flap opens and closes randomly , mostly on bad roads or when I brake hard.
I checked the cables and connector for the micro switch, the are ok.
Do you have replacement diaphragms for the actuator 92857309402 ?
Or can I replace this actuator with the actuator 928 573 309 03 for cars from 1984 on ?

Thanks,
Thommy
