Trouble isn't total lack of info, there are numbers and dates all over, and I have trained myself to ignore what is usually meaningless.

Many forums, and most forum software allow either automatic total locking after so many days of no posts, or several ARE YOU SURE and maybe a mod will spank you steps before allowing new posts on old threads.

Most of these resurrections have been from someone doing a search, finding some vague reference to a topic, and doing a reply instead of starting a new thread. Its a poor use of the time of all involved.

OTOH if the SEARCH function actually had a working date sort, that might end the issue.
