Default Duplicate keys

When I bought my car it only came with one key
and since I have purchased a blank but other than sending it off
to Porsche in LA for $85 to make a duplicate does anyone know of a locksmith in the Bay Area that can cut a key?

Go Giants

Not the answer you are looking for but it's the only way to go: http://www.keys4classics.com/

Ps. Make a lot of pictures of your key right now.

Aryan is correct and so is Bob! I had an extra key for my 84 and for my 85 done by these guys. It was a very fast turn around and worked PERFECTLY in each car!!

Tony,

You are ALL in to this 928 stuff bro! Glad you are a good Texas boy too! We did a brief look at the locations of 928 Owners Club members and it looks like Texas leads the charts right now. I think CA and the FL were next, or maybe NY was 3rd in numbers. Makes sense of course considering they are the most populace states...but still another GTS in Texas is ALWAYS a good thing!

Nothing you can practically do with a blank key is there?

Anybody that can cut a 928 key will have their own blanks, and not really like people bringing their own.

There is a local Locksmith in OKC that has a special key grinder wheel for STEEL keys like the 928 key. That is the only real reason why just any locksmith shop can't make a copy. He prefers you bring the blanks so he doesn't have to stock a key blank he very rarely needs.

I have now been to 6 "key smiths" The most recent is "Reeds" in Oakland. As soon as I dropped my key on the counter the key smith said, "ah.... a 928 key". He called around and we think there is a shop in SF on Geary that can do it. It has been an interesting hunt. More later.

Special machinery is needed. Few can do this work, includng Porsche. Curious why you didn't send photo to Australians?

They are great. They first cut a key on there blank and sent it to me. I t worked perfectly so I sent 2 Porsche blanks that I had. Perfect too and turnaround was not bad.

The Aussies have an eBay store if that makes it easier. Just type in Porsche 928 key in search.

Vanster you would have already had your new key in your hand had you sent a high rez digital pic to the Aussie's already. Would have saved your running all around creation being told, "we can't do those but we think..." Stop wasting your time and email a pic to the boys down under! I recently had them do two keys for me (one each for two different cars) I think I had the keys in my hand in a week, maybe 10 days.

I ordered a spare key from the Porsche dealer and it works perfectly.
