Default Door Lock with Ball Broken that attaches to plastic lug for actuator

The door lock on my 928 S2 (1985) broke a couple of months ago. When I turned the key in the drivers door (RHS) nothing happened. The car would still lock and open from the passengers side so the central locking was not affected..
It turned out that the circular piece which is part of the lock and which has the round lug attached to it, had broken. This round lug is attached to a plastic bar which connects to the door lock and opens it and also triggers the central locking to open the door on the other side of the car too.
Anyway, I ordered a new lock and then used the post from Wayne Strutt below to tell me how to swap the key part of the lock from my lock into the barrell from the new lock. This meant that I could keep the same key for both doors of my car. Unfortunately I broke the same part of the new lock trying to put it back into the door of the car. So now I am back to square one again.
I have checked this forum and there have been a number of users who had the same part break on their locks in the past. I have tried to repair the broken part using liquid metal but because the part has to rotate in the lock cylinder it is not possible to put enough liquid metal on it to strengthen it. It also doesnt appear that it can be welded as it is some type of cast alloy metal.

I am wondering if anyone knows if this part can be purchased separately or if you know of someone who can make this part. Any advice much appreciated, I dont really want to have to buy another whole lock just for this part. From what I can find I think this is the part number - the part is slightly different depending on which door of the car it is for.

Part 928 537 117 03 /L

Part 928 537 118 03 /R

92853762602 or maybe it is this part but it doesn’t come in left or right?

This is a picture from Wayne Strutt where he lists the parts of the lock cylinder. The broken part of my lock is in the top left hand corner.

best thing to do is buy a new lock then take it apart and rekey it so your key fits.
'NOTE make sure to lubricate the door lock mechanism inside the door

Thanks Mr. Merlin. I already have my eye on a new lock, but I am hoping someone might be able to tell me where I can buy the broken part or if it can be fixed in some way.

This is a weak part of the assembly,
due to the amount of effort required to fix it,
the way to do that so the repair lasts as long as possible,
Ideal would be to put new parts into the assembly ,
a secondary way is to get used parts .
Make sure to lubricate your lock assembly and that the **** assembly for the lock is not binding because those are two things that can cause that little piece to break in your lock

We have used locks with no keys for $50. You can use it for parts.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the offer of the used lock. I have my eye on one here in Europe for 60 Euro so I will probably go for that because of the shipping cost. Thanks all the same.

I managed to fit the new drivers door lock a couple of weeks ago. Only getting around to updating this now. I attached the plastic bar to the lug on the door lock but I could not get the door lock to go all the way into the holder. There was something that prevented the door lock going all the way in once I had attached the plastic bar. I discovered that if I removed the plastic holder from the door that the screw which holds the door lock goes into that this gave me the extra space to push the door lock in with the plastic bar attached.
I have shown this in the pictures below in case anyone else has the same problem when re-fitting a door lock.

Plastic holder removed from the door using a large allan key. This is the plastic holder that the screw that holds the door lock in place goes into.

This gives enough access to insert the door lock with the plastic bar attached to the lug on the door lock.

Door lock fixed in place.
