As soon as my car starts moving i get this message. I dont get any ABS warning, so i am assuming that the speed sensors are ok. The psd pump ran continuously before i disconnected it. I tried to find out if the pump was shot by disconnecting one of the pipes before the solenoid, but no pressure was evident. Not sure if it needs the hammer to trigger it at this stage. But why would the pump be running if the car is not moving. or does it run all the time , just in case? Any ideas?.......Jim

Jim it runs only till it pressurizes - if its running continuously seems its leaking or not pumping. I'd suggest you flush & refill first - you may just have gunk clogging the pump. There is an advisory on regular maintenance (flush & refill) on the PSD but almost no-one knows of if till you hit symptoms.
Mine was rather like yours - and a flush and refill cured it (for >12 months now) The technician who fixed it said the fluid in it was incredibly contaminated (must be some kind of corrosion because its a sealed system).
If you have a PSD and its never been flushed it might be time... I'd recommend maybe every 5 years - ( I think factory said 3 years) however you need a bosch hammer & a special cable to do it (or I hear there may be some workarounds) but its not as straightforward as it could be.
The dealer wanted to replace the pump and pressure vessel - about $1K each installed as I recall - turns out it wasn't necessary. needless to say I went elsewhere...

I had the same problem and found that the fluid was low and dirty.
I opened the bleed valve and the fill cap and started to pump new fluid into the tank until clean fluid started to come out the bleed valve.
Closed the bleed valve and toped off the tank......works like a champ!

There's suppose to be a way getting round the hammer to trigger this. I,ve tried one of the links in an old post but no luck. Anybody got a link or some info on this method of triggering without the hammer?

You can fill the reservoir and the pump won't be able to build up pressure. What can happen is air will be trapped in the pump. The shop manual mentions this.
The PSD pump reservoir is vented. It uses brake fluid which absorbs moisture, and like the brake system, it should be flushed regularly.
The only safe way to bleed the system is with the Bosch hammer. The risk of burning out the solenoid valve is quite high when you energize it with a 12 volt jumper. Replacement cost of a new valve is $1500.

Thanks for the Email guys. I tried this today and did not get past the first stage. When the pump is running, it does not cut out, so i guess it is not getting up to pressure. Opened the bleed valve , and nothing. So it looks like the pump is not pressurising the system. Will take it out and have a good look at it. I am assuming that there is no bypass valve inside it that could be stuck open............................Jim

Took out the psd pump unit today. Pump motor is turning ok, but no fluid is pushed out the casing hole to where the lock solenoid would be. dissmantled the unit, pump turns freely, fluid is getting to the pump, but not being pushed through. Is there a way, or a need to prime this pump? Any ideas? I will try taking off the accumulator next to see if the oil is being pumped into that.

Just to follow-up on this thread. Last night I looked at the fuse and PSD relay, which is located in the spare tire wheel well. I removed the fuse, checked it (it was ok), put it back in place. No more 'traction control off' warning. Hopefully, it stays that way. Note the car had been on ramps for several days prior to the warning light going on, I don't know what this may have done, but I thought I'd mention it.
I am going to flush and fill the PSD fluid. My guess is that's it's never been done.
