Default New design/material pan gaskets finally done!

If you haven't been following along, or your memory is like mine (CRS), I've been working on a a replacement pan gasket made from "uber" material....because the original cork is 50 year old technology and the silicone gaskets "almost work", if you buy $50 worth of hardware and don't over tighten it. The material I selected to make these from is an extremely high grade material, is virtually impervious to oil (it is made to sit and soak 24/7 in oil) and has exceptionally low compression (Finally can torque the oil pan hardware to 72 inch.lbs., where it won't come loose.)

Well, after a year (more?), I finally have these super trick pan gaskets here and ready to ship....in a limited supply (more on the way.) (This has taken so long, I think they are cutting these out, one at a time, with a chisel, a hole punch, and a file.) They fit the hole pattern, they have the correct pattern for the oil pan and the block, they have the correct hole size. They've been tested at length. I've left then in engines for months, removed them to look at, and simply re-installed them. They are....perfect (which is what you would expect to get, from us.)

There's two different thicknesses, .85mm and 1.6mm. I made the .85mm thickness for use between the block and my pan spacer. I made the 1.6mm thickness for use between the stock engine block and the oil pan, or between my pan spacer and the oil pan. (So, if you are using my pan spacer, you will need a "thin" one and a "thick" one.)

For the people on Mary's waiting list, price is $79.95, plus shipping.

If you have your name on a waiting list, call Mary ASAP, so she can ship you one of these.
If you blink, you will be waiting for the "more on the way" ones.)

This will be a good product, it looks like the same material that Nissan used for their oil pans in competition (GT2-GT4 class) for the Datsun Z cars, one of which I own.

Looks great.

So, this works with the standard bolts? No need for studs?

No need for studs, run in your 30 captive washer bolts, torque to 6 ft-lbs in an alternating pattern all the way around, then recheck each one, done.

All I had were "gone", by 10am.

Now that we have a finished pattern, I should be getting more, quickly. Call Mary and get on the waiting list.

This is something I very much want to do for my car at some point; can I assume that this will be an item that will be stocked regularly? If not then I'll call and get my name on the list for when the right time rolls around.

Along similar lines, as I am in the middle of this, is there any chance that this material can be used for the transmission pan gasket? I'm only just installing that whole thing now but it seems to me that it's prone to the same problems that I read about with the engine oil pan gasket. If so, any plans along those lines? I'm a big fan of properly engineered solutions and this looks like just such a thing.

Cheers
