What and When to toss parts?
Hi there. I parted out an 89-928 and sold some parts but still have a
.transmission which worked for 1 day then stopped working with strawberry milkshake fluid.
.complete interior excluding front seats
.doors, hood, tail gate
.complete engine in bits.
.nuts and bolts galore.
The wife isn't complaining but I'm looking for a simpler life.
Question is how do you know when to bin used and new parts ?

Sell the nuts and bolts in a bucket unless they're special like the pins for the shocks.
The trans is a core at this point. Someone will want it as the 89 had better ratios.
Same goes for the engine. Stronger heads and higher compression are a plus!
Body parts are a harder sell, but the rear bumper covers are always in demand as they aren't made anymore.
Interior depends on condition and color. Someone may want it as a core.
I bin parts when they are beyond economical repair or their usable life such as heavily warped interior 1/4 panels and rusty brake rotors.

Some of the little bits are stupid expensive. The oil feed tube bolts are like $50 each new. Small plastic bits are also hard to find sometimes

Thanks for the many replies. Seems though my audience is not prone to discarding parts.
My location is in Tokyo which is not known for its DIY culture. And unless a car is close to showroom perfect it's discarded.
So shipping to strong markets will cost a bundle but my domestic market is soft.
Things sell but painfully slowly.
On average 2-3 years to sell.

If you still have the bell housing, contact Greg Brown. He's looking for some.
