Regularity rally car

Where did you get the search lights from- ex WW2 Luftwaffe war surplus?
Trust you have enough juice in the alternator to power those things- are they modern LED powered units by any chance?- either way not very OEM I suspect.'
Your use of the word "Regularity" puzzled me some but clearly it refers to the concept of something that is relatively speaking as it came from the factory [surprise surprise!]. I suppose it is a bit like the classification system the FIA used to run regarding Class A or class N wherein one class was specifically for cars that were little more than cars plucked off the production line with very limited mods- no idea what their equivalents are today as I am talking about 20 years ago when I used to follow the sport over here.
Impressive!

haha .... this is a very common light pod , as used on rally 911's. Not OEM, and not LED , that is forbidden for historic cars. Just old school bulbs ( 55W or 100W ) .
Last rally no problem with the juice , also never had over 5 years with the BMW . Must mention average time over a "special stage" is 10 minutes , so we don't use them that long in one time , and when they are on , rpm is at least 3000 or more.
Yes, the white 928 is for "rally" , pure speed . Regularity is a bit the same concept but on average speed , and cars must remain "street legal" , so not so much mods allowed , almost oem factory. Of course a lot less chance on damage and accidents…. i see it as "rally" for old guys , we can keep going on with our hobby without huge budgets and sponsors...

thanks Fred ! Meanwhile i glued carpet on the wooden box … here you see a test fit in the car , with 2 "real" spare wheels . In a 2....3 days rally it's not a lux to have 2 spare wheels. I don't have a service crew waiting for my at several points with a van full of spares. …..and a tire shop ? during the rally no way or out of time schedule , and in the evening they are closed…. after mounting the only spare , there is some stress... don't ask me how i know. ( 1ste day of a 3 days… so gave up P and drove careful as a second flat would have been abandon…. )

Thanks ! yes, bought from Jochen at Landsharks . Nice guy .
Was surprized to see so many 928's.
And drove the 600 km direct home with transit license plates.

finally got the coilovers ready for install…. springs are the 600/400. Made myself the top aluminium centering cups to match the oem cups. Curious about the car height with them…. and if the screw range will allow my desired height . Hope to install them tomorrow. Shocks are fine as they were tested during inspection a few weeks ago.

So my napkin math guess was pretty close.

Speedtoys, yes, we want to keep "some " comfort in that car ( 600 front ) and have 2 spare wheels in the back + tools … so 400.
Of course to found out …. honestly , have no idea.

'90 GT suspension swap finished , still alignment to do.
Seems good , i have the "Dakar" look 🙂
Front needs to settle while driving a bit , clamps are not yet torqued.
I can push the car a bit by hand up&down…. what is good for rally . Springs are now 600/400 lbs ( 105/75 kg ) .
Must look in WSM , but according the height measure points they take , i have 200 mm front and 220 mm rear. Must look how much oem to compare to have the car "level".
Sump is now at 180 mm , was 100 mm ! so i'm 80 mm higher …. which is good , i have a extra 928Motorsports cross bar under the front arms...this one is now at 150 mm.
Still a sump protection plate to make.
Pitty with that damned Corona... already 2 rallys are cancelled…. next week and 4/5 April.

i see now in WSM front 180 mm ,rear 173 mm ….
means the front must be higher ( adjustment nut still in lowest position ) , perhaps 30 mm range ...and lower the rear a bit ( nut in highest position now ) if front settles with driving .
That's to keep the oem "level" …. but higher. Don't know if better with the nose down a bit compared to the rear ??

Barry, in the good old times when people used to rally old Volvo cars through the forests of Sweden, making it a very unsafe place to be, they raised the front end of the cars a lot and put a steel skid plate under the engine. Other people who drag raced the Volvo cars lowered the front end and raised the rear end of the cars.

also here Ake, the inside of corners is quickly driven "out" …. and for speed you want to use that "banking" . Here you see my friend taking such corner, it is really skiing on the skid plate and in or outside wheel on the ground or road. First rally i almost wrecked my new 929 engine....half of the sump cool ribs are gone ! .
