MoD, that’s a very beautiful car!!!!
I love the Mahogany color interior, especially that they continued the color to the dash, pod, wheel, doors, everything! I haven’t seen that treatment in an ‘87 car before. Add a deep black exterior and it’s a winner! Looks like it was built without the rub strips???
I would make a minor suggestion if you are open to one, replace the floor mats with new ones that are true to the Mahogany color; the ones that are in there clash. It would only cost $100-$150 through Lloyd’s Mats for the front, rear, and the trunk mat; and they can add a Porsche or 928s4 logo for a few extra dollars. If you call them they will send you color samples (strongly recommend that you get color samples before ordering), it takes 2-3 days for the samples to arrive.

In the later years (10+ or so) post 928 production the mats were only available from Porsche in Black, so you will probably see a lot of black mats in cars with a different color of carpet just because ordering other than Porsche was kind of a pain and sacrilegious to many owners. Lloyd’s is authorized by Porsche so they can use the logo; they make a great product and have all of the colors.

My car has Cashmere/Champagne carpet and seats; the equivalent Lloyd’s color is their Bamboo, not anything named Cashmere or Champagne. I wouldn’t have known that by looking at the colors on the computer screen, the 8 sample color swatches they sent were invaluable to me finding the correct color.

Lloyds may not have a color named Mahogany, but I can assure you they have the color but it goes by a different name. Lloyd’s color names don’t always mirror the names used by Porsche. Perhaps M. Saddle?

Anyway, to each his own. Happy Sunday!
ETA: I had forgotten, aside from the link to the “standard” carpet color choices that are shown online (M. Saddle 520 was pointed out in the 1st link), Lloyd’s has other color choices available in their other lines, such as the Saddle 782 in their Lux line, here:

Anyone looking to match their carpet really must order multiple free sample swatches to make the correct match. You can get one on one assistance from Gary @ +1 (818) 723-5398.

Did you click the link? M. Saddle is as you described a Mahogany, it is to my eyes anyway. Have you requested and received sample swatches from Lloyd’s and compared them next to your actual carpet?
Anyway, to each his own. Happy Sunday!

Hello again, I wanted to bring this thread back up in an effort to find an S4. I have been looking several times a day for several months on as many sites as I know of with no luck. If someone has a nice 1987 to 1990 in a 5 spd that is considering selling please message me. My budget is flexible based on the car, The manual trans is a must, I'm not interested in red, yellow, green or beige exterior and any shade of brown is a no go for the interior. Thanks in advance.

Done! Here it is! Thank you everybody that sent me a private message offering future S4's that will be for sale. I guess color is really important to me. There were some nice cars brought to my attention, including the black/mahogany that just fetched 25k on BAT. I did not get a silver or blue one that I had hoped for but the black on black is a safe, manly, classic combo.
Here's the run down:
3 owner 1987 S4 delivered new out of Jersey's Paul Miller Porsche on January 1st 1987. Ya, I was 17.
Full service documentation back to January 1st, 1987 to the tune of $45,629.43. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not?
All service work was preformed by legit shops/dealers, no do-it your selfers.
1987 to 1997 in Jersey serviced by Paul Miller
!997 to 2006 in Medina Ohio serviced by Steinel's autowerks
2006 to 2020 same owner started in Chattanooga then moved to Cypress Texas most service by multiple European shops.
The car has 126,000 actual miles and ran out fairly well on my first drive.
Last major service was completed in 2012, a few thousand miles ago.
The good:
Documentation
Paint is an 8.5, all original with clean Carfax
Interior will be a 9 after a much needed detail
New fuel, power steering and a/c lines
Most everything on the car works
Newer tires, Turbo Twist wheels and original manholes
Liftbars, car cover, fender covers, owners manuals included
The bad: (at a glance)
My biggest concern... Shifter seems to have a lot of play in between gears and 3rd is very difficult to find. The boot and boot plate are loose.
Need resistor pack for fan switch
Central locking system inoperable
Rear hatch does not open from interior *****
Fuel gauge bounces a little
3 extremely small cracks on dash connecting the defrost vents, upholstery shop quoted me $150 and said I will never know they were there.
Consensus:
Pretty happy so far, excellent bones. A little worried about the slop in the shifter.
