Default Exhaust recommendation.

The Stepson (84 Euro) will never be concours. That thought occurred to me several years ago during a spirited drive.

I have never been happy with the exhaust that came with the car: ANSA.
In reality, most of the ANSA has been removed.
It currently has ceramic coated MSDS headers, an after collector X pipe from Magnaflow, 2 1/4" duals to the back, to the ANSA pumpkin.

I would like to replace the 2 1/4 duals with 2 1/2" duals and replace the ANSA pumpkin with ??????.
I prefer a tuned type sound versus the rough NASCAR sound. Is that possible?
Does anybody have an idea for a muffler that I could use to affect such a sound?

Thanks in advance

Not sure if you recall the sound of my GT but I really like it and it has an Xpipe, small GT resonators and a Gibson muffler. The RMB gave it the NASCAR sound that I didn’t care for.

So wait? Did I do something to you that made you not want to talk to me for a couple of months? If so, I'm sorry.
Or is something coming down the pipe that I've not been made aware of yet that might be zackly what I'm looking for ?

Is the Gibson muffler a 2 in 2 out?
If Sean is still not talking to me in 2 months, I might have to make a roadtrip to OKC for a listen

Mine is a 2 in 2 out. They make several configurations. I got it at autoanything but Jegs and others carry them. Fits up there nicely.

You’re always welcome and I’m surprised that Sean would only go two months. I would have guessed much longer.

I have a 2 in/2 out Borla rear muffler along with MSDS headers, an x-pipe from Carl and nothing else. It's a mellow kind of rumble at idle or low RPMs, but when you get on it it shrieks. I love it. It's an S3 though, for what it's worth, and sound is so subjective...I have no idea if it qualifies for "that NASCAR sound" or not.

I'm not a huge fan of the way the Borla tips look though, to be honest. For one thing, they're not level. That drives my OCD nuts, although not yet nuts enough to attempt to do anything drastic to fix it.

Any config using an X will give you that nice wail while on the throttle.

I have an X, small GT resonators, and S4 pumpkin and it's the best overall combination I've tried for a street 928.

I'm talking about that raspy sound. A lot Mustangs locally opt for that sound and it's just unpleasant to my ears.

I went magnaflow resonator and rear muffler on #30, to save the budget, sounds good, but like a camaro, not a 928

I am not above using Magnaflow components, I just don't want that raspy sound when I accelerate.
Is it the resonator that takes the rasp out or is it the muffler? Or does it depend on the type resonator and type muffler used?

No cats or with cats?

Are you willing to custom fabricate the exhaust or does it have to be a bolt on thing?

Here's a long and winding thread of how to design a big exhaust that sounds good: https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=49628
