I had a custom 3 inch system on my 81 with a muffler made by Spintech. It was anything but raspy. It was loud, baritone, and burbly. Made the car sound like much more than a stock 4.5 lol.
IIRC it was one of their racing mufflers. They have all kinds from mild to wild for sound and they can even custom make you one because of space constraints with where you mount it. They offer mild steel and stainless.
