For this reason I've always wished some of the warmer climate areas would host a large GTG in say......January - March when there really isn't anything else going on.

The idea of driving a 928 to every event is awesome, but not realistic for many. Even Sharktoberfest is risky leaving Wisconsin (cars were put away last week already). A chance to get away and hang out with you folks when there's nothing car related going on locally would be great.

I miss most 928 GTG's due to local events I'm involved with.

Two of the worst snow storms I've ever experienced were in April. While a few days of clear I will venture around the area, I wouldn't think of leaving for a long road trip with a 928 until May.

My first DE event was in April at Road America, almost got snowed out.

Still, an April event is a nice idea for the previous reasons mentioned

So, Greg's liking of June in SoCal works for us. What about the weekend of June 19-21. That segues seamlessly into Porsche Parade in Palm Springs! I don't know how many of you have gone to a Parade event, but it is a kick. Really not too many 928s, but the ones there are spectacular and besides it is a really fun week. So kicking this up a bit - let's get lots of 928's to head from our own special event at Greg and Mary's and head to Palm Springs. Let's thing BIG.

Tony,

I am thinking Sharks in the Badlands to maybe be every other year. That way it stays fresh and people who have not been here will try and take time to enjoy their time here.

Camp 928 is June 18-20 and really don't want to schedule this event on the same weekend....or any 928 event....especially the larger venues. Sue as you've stated in post # 11: "Late April, early May would be a better option." That said have been shooting for last week of April and so far it's looking great. That segues seamlessly into Porsche Parade in Palm Springs! Porsche Parades are fun but now your talking of taking off a week or more for these the two^^events. Great if your retired...not so great if your still working. That said I still feel the Apr 24-26 date is the best option. The two BIG factors to make this a great event that will grow are: 1) Not having to compete with the two larger events, Frenzy and 3rd Coast in the fall, and 2) So Cal spring weather will be a HUGE draw. As far as the norcal "Sharks in the Park" event goes who says they can't drive down to S-Fest the last week of April...a week prior to there single day event So kicking this up a bit - let's get lots of 928's to head from our own special event at Greg and Mary's and head to Palm Springs.Let's thing BIG.

Tony, Tony. I noticed that you played a very big role in the recent Sharktoberfest in Orange, CA, including announcing it, helping put it together and in actually conducting it, and I know that Greg and Mary very much appreciate all of your efforts. Now, however, I have to wonder just how much they are in favor of your current suggestion about moving the event to the Spring, or whether they are simply caught up in your enthusiasm for the idea, which apears to me to be kind of an effort to bring your now likely defunct Spring Fling to California and plugging the life of Sharktoberfest into it.

The idea of unbunching some of these 928 events has a lot of merit, but I am both a creature of habit and I kind of come out of a Labor/Management background where I tend to think in terms of seniority hath its priviledges. That kind of make me resistant to the idea of any change, and in this case I tend to think that Sharktoberfest is the senior of the events that seem to you to be bunched up. Given that, I have to wonder if maybe your efforts might be better directed if you develop a plan to move 3rd Coast to the Spring and perhaps combine it with your Spring Fling at Marble Falls. They are already both in Texas and that idea would unbunch the two of these events that are the closest in time and place, and still give Sharktoberfest its seniority rights.

On the other hand, I am having trouble with the name of the new event if Sharktoberfest is moved to the Spring. The major event that comes to mind for the Spring is Spring Break, so I wonder if perhaps Shark Break might be a better name.

I checked with Herman....Spring Fling is done. On the other hand, I am having trouble with the name of the new event if Sharktoberfest is moved to the Spring. The date's are not set at this time. Final decision will be coming from Greg&Mary@Precision Motorwerk's...they are the new hosts of this event. The major event that comes to mind for the Spring is Spring Break, so I wonder if perhaps Shark Break might be a better name. Shark Break sounds good to me and so do many others. IMHO all that's really important is moving this event to the last week of April unbunching it from the two large events held in the fall. Also providing a nice break from those coming to this event from points north and providing an opportunity to grow.02 T

This seems like a very scattered discussion, I think some "principals" are in order...
  1. I think unbunching is a great idea.
  2. Sharktoberfest IS the senior event, and all other events should adapt to it.
  3. Greg is the host, and it should revolve around a calendar that works for him and Precision Motorwerks
  4. Possible dates should be inclusive... it should be doable every year by those in harsher climates - not too early, not too late
  5. It should be on the same weekend every year
  6. Holidays should be avoided. While Holidays would make it easier for long distance people to attend on an occasional basis, I don't think most attendees would want to dedicate an annual holiday to it. (and keep in mind that Easter is a moving target; I am not sure how late in April it could possibly occur)
I personally am not wedded to the 3rd weekend of October, but if it were any other weekend in October I wouldn't be able to make it, it's pretty packed for me. That said, I block off that weekend annually if I can. I think I've only missed one since I got my 928 in 2006. In other words, predictable-ness is good!

Maybe the best way to go is for Greg to nominate a selection of good dates (including the 3rd week of October) and put up a poll to find out what really works for the most people.

I'm in PA, so Hershey, Camp 928, and Frenzy are on my calendar every year. I'm going to the Amelia Island Rendezvous next March, and I'd like to make a Sharks in the Mountains one of these years.

I'm retiring from the Army in a couple years (and altogether if I can swing it), which makes it increasingly possible to achieve my ultimate goal of driving my car to every significant 928 event in CONUS. I've already started planning future drives to 3rd Coast and Sharktoberfest. So, I am absolutely in favor of deconfliction.

The goal would be to get a minimum of 400-500 cars there and about 1000+ attendees.
Brilliant. The trick is to pick a destination that is as equidistant as possible. The geographic center of CONUS is Lebanon, KS. It's about 24 hours from the corners, so that's about as fair as it's going to get. Of course, there's not a damn thing going on in Lebanon, other than it's the geographic center of CONUS. Not that we seem to need much more than a hotel with a restaurant, bar, and pizza delivery to the parking lot to have a good time. Unfortunately the roads are arrow straight (it's Kansas).

Kansas City would be a great destination. It's a little farther from the West Coast, but it has literally everything. We could hold the actual event at the Kansas Speedway, which is just west of KC itself.

I am one of the oldest guys posting here. I hope you all reach that status too one day. When you do you will find that driving after dark becomes more of a challenge and that daylight savings time is your friend. Third Coast has been a lot more fun for me when Sunday falls before the return to standard time.

Default RENDEZVOUS 928

2019 started this series of events at the PCNA headquarters in Atlanta Georgia.
2020, This year we had our event in South Dakota, "Sharks in the Badlands" co-hosted by Harvey Carlisle.
2021, Next year's RENDEZVOUS 928 event will be at Amelia Island "Sharks Circling Amelia Island" co-hosted by Trey Johnson. This event will be coinciding with PCA WERKS Reunion and the Amelia Island Concours.
2022, Will be coinciding with the Pittsburgh Vitage Grand Prix
2023, looking at Southern California as the destination.

The first event was scheduled as a one time only event but has turned into a roaming event copying the PCA Parade.
The same idea as Parade being that as the event moves around the country everyone could have a opportunity to attend.
We are trying very hard not to interfere with any long standing events. However when an opportunity to work with another major event, WERKS Reunion or PVGP we will have to make an exception. I hope we continue to grow and visit every region of this Great country with our community.

Ed and I are already in discussion for PVGP/Rendezvous 928 in July 2022. By then, we hope things are back to normal and everything is opened up and available. Porsche will be the Mark of the Year at PVGP. So, along with Rendezvous 928 this event will be Monumental!

These are the kind of events we are working to build and be involved with.
We feel this not only gives people an opportunity to attend the major events but helps them consolidate vacation time, aka yearly 928 road trip. Don't get me wrong I love the fun runs and parking lot parties but we also know there are many that want a few more options during their trip. Everyone that builds or sponsors an event knows the planning involved in any large gathering especially being an ever changing and developing event. I personally hope we don't step on anyone's toes and want to thank everyone involved with planning these events. I hope everyone gets the opportunity to join us at one of the RENDEZVOUS 928 events.

Any year we do not have a major event to tie into
RENDEZVOUS 928 will be June/July.[/color]
