Ok Carfax is going to cost about $250 to pull the reports on all these. Anyone know better way?

Louisiana DMV wasnt a lot of help. None of the 8 VIN are currently registered in the state nor have they been since 2001. State trooper buddy says his search is nation wide so Fingers crossed

anyone in here use Autocheck vs Carfax? Thinking about getting the $50 auto check subscription to look up these cars.

I sent the 8 VIN's to the dealership that use to service the car. they are going to look them up and see where they are or if they have been serviced by Porsche recently

The dealership doesn't have any records of the maintenance it did for your Dad? In my experience, dealership records generally have at least the plate and often the VIN listed on the receipt.

No their records don't go back 20 years. The DMV records only go back to 2001. Also this is not where we bought the car just where we took it for an inspection after it was purchased form the original owner.

I wouldn't put all of my eggs in the same basket with these 8 VINs. Everything looks pretty reliable for narrowing down potential VINs until 928cs asks about alarm and ABS options. I might trust that it wasn't ABS equipped, but I have very little faith that you knew if it had a factory alarm or not.

You're right I am not a hundred percent certain. If one of these eight don't come back has the car I'm looking for I'll a see if he can get me the VIN numbers for ones that did have alarm with no abs

I was thinking the same thing.

The factory alarm is pretty unobtrusive. And, like the sunroof, far more common to have it than not.

Often, the only way you know if you have one is if you accidentally set it off. That's how I discovered mine.

The biggest tell is the length of the key. There are 'long' and 'short' keys.

There was a recent thread about the keys:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...red-key-2.html
Post 22 has a pic of the two key lengths.

OP: Do you remember if there was a long key for the car? If so, you had the alarm.

Very reasonable strategy. I sure hope you're able to find it. Hopefully, in good shape.
