drove my car every day last week and car is awesome. some lower temps and lower humidity make it come alive! yesterday morning, no start and no tach bounce. CPS replaced 07/2018 and connection is good. this AM, key in on position and injectors are firing away. with bosch hammer, codes on LH side are L00, and L01, but I don't see these codes listed in WSM. pretty certain that my LH has passed on, but would appreciate confirmation before I spend $500.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Sounds ominously like the LH death rattle. Cannot comment on the codes but the physical symptoms are just like what happened to the original LH on my 90S4 about 20 years ago - at least you got your money's worth out of the original item.

My personal opinion, any LH that has not already been rebuilt is on borrowed time. The rebuild is an upgrade to a better chip over the one that usually fails.
My car was running fine, zero issues, I had it rebuilt anyway. Same goes for the MAF, if you don't know if / when it was ever rebuilt, might as well do it now.

Send the MAF along for the ride too. A tired MAF will affect performance more and more as it ages, until it drifts/wears out of range with time and use. Do It Like You Mean It.

Does this recommendation (get your LH rebuilt whether it's dead or not if original) apply to S3 cars as well? If so I will send it out the next time I have to work on something that will have the car out of commission for a bit.

Sort of. In the LH 2.3, there is a 'tile' IC that is guaranteed to fail at some point. The LH 2.2 used in the S3's has no such tile and is FAR less failure prone. However...they are 33-34 years old now. Discrete components get old and fail, solder joints fail, etc...
I sent the LH 2.2 and EZF computers from the Red Witch out to Rich Andrade at Electronik Repair last year. He replaced failed components and reflowed all solder joints for very reasonable money. I have a spare set of LH 2.2/EZF computers that will also go to Rich for the same treatment.
Worth the money, at least to me.
Good Luck!

If anyone has their computers out and they're working fine now I highly recommend replacing the electrolytic capacitors.
They dry out over time and when they fail can take the rest of the computer with it by destroying the PCB when they blow.
