Kick down cable at throttle body
Okay, I have spent quite a few hours under the car trying to replace the kickdown cable end to the trans. my question is how can you take the cable off the throttle body? Now I can touch the ball end and even get 2 fingers on it to pull it off but it will not budge. I was told there is a clip holding it on. If there is how does it come off? I cant get behind the ball part to feel whats there.

Most of the ball & socket connectors have a small hole (~1/32") drilled thru the cable end of the socket: a spring wire bail/clip is inserted thru this hole to secure the socket to the ball stud. The wire bail has a curved end that "clips" around the groove on the neck of the socket to secure the 'ltl &$%#@ in place.
This is almost a direct quote of what you'll call it when you release the clip (after you find it), only to see it fly off on a one way trip!!
After the clip is off/lost, the socket releases quite easily.

The best way to remove the ball from the socket is to remove the air box (all together) (and Maf) and reach in from the rear of the throttle body and or intake. The ball just snaps onto the socket. Take a tool and wedge it against the socket and a (stationary) object and GENTLY pry out. It should just Pop off.
On both of my S2's, there are no clip securing the ball onto the socket. (Any of the throttle cables) Clips being the ones similair to the ones on the hood Struts and rear hatch struts.
As a matter of fact, I did the same procedure today, on my track car, to adjust my throttle cable.
Good Luck!

I haven't checked at the throttle housing, but my '86 has the clips on the cables at the throttle quadrant on the front of the engine.

Wally:
My 85 AT does not have the clips for the cables on the throttle quadrant, and the socket can be popped off quite easily. Am I suppose to have them? If so, the description of "clip for throttle cable" sufficient when ordering the parts?
If 85 is not equiped with the clip, what do you suggest we use to keep the socket from popping off?
thanks.
