I generally love it when they are real black and have those cute little groves going around, especially when they are arranged in a nice pattern. I think the Yokohamas are pretty fashionable these days - my car and I feel very comfortable with them on the front, and they look good, too! When the rear ones have worn out, we'll match the pattern.

On an 81 auto you could get away with V rated tires. I put a set on
my old 81 auto. I never exceeded the 149 mph speed rating in that
car. Can't say the same for the S4.

Scott M,
I missed your post until now. The Boss has me busy remodeling the kitchen.
A friends wife was driving her samurai through the development at 25 mph and swerved to miss a dog and rolled it. Luckily only a broken arm. I suspect that Consumers report got that right. I do use them for a starting place with some purchases, but not gospel on everything.
Take a look at the tire report in the November 2003 issue. You can pick out some of the complaints that the forum have written about. I suspect that I would have tried the Goodyear Eagle F1s that they rated #1 instead of the ES100s that I bought.

BrendanCampion:
I did. On the way home George. Good tires. A bit soft on the sidewall.

I've gone through two sets of Bridgstone SO-2's (a bad allignment and a non repairable puncture did in one set - not the tire's fault) and I'm currently running a set of SO-3's. I have the nearly bald SO-2's on my spare set of rims and swap them on for autocrossing. Great tires - no complaints, although I believe that the Mich. Pilot Sports and the Goodyear F1 have pulled ahead in the max performance category.

The High speed didn't blow the SECOND transmission up, nor did it blow the ORIGINAL one. That was simply San Diego driving.
