Best weight reduction advice
I'm in the throws of building my silver '81 and I am trying to put it on as much of a diet as possible. It's in the paint shop now
1) It's a comp package option so it all ready has the lighter sport seats ( just reupholstered )
2) New dash
3) side markers removed
4) spoilers are gone
5) rear bumperetts are gone
I'm following the CS model for weight savings but I would like to get this car under 3000#'s
Rear seat removal? ( I would carpet the floor as I don't want the car to look gutted )
remove the AC?
Rear visors
radio?
insulation?
My wish list is to find a set of short gears.

Don't paint it...that will save several pounds. Kidding.
Rear seats and seatbelt hardware is an easy start. (You don't use those anyway, right?)
Removing the A/C componentry will certainly save a chunk of weight. Plus, getting the condenser out of the way will give you better cooling.
I assume the smog equipment is gone?
Any electric motor is easy and quick weight savings. So, goodbye wiper motors, sunroof motor, door lock motors, and headlight motor. (Regular RainX and you'll be fine, and leave the headlights up.) I wish there was a roll-up window option so you could chuck those motors as well.
A full carpet set with factory backing is heavier then you might think. So, if you are going to have carpet, go with lighter grade and less backing. (You will need some.)

If it's to be a driven car here, he needs the air pump and front wiper motor...that is a heavy motor..for what it does..but CA CHP watches in bad weather peoples use of wipers/headlights as a paired requirement heavily.
No point to make a car unsafe just for weight reduction (as a driver car).

When I was building my 928 race car I was always disapointed how little things actually weighed. People always jump to taking the interior out but most of it weighs very little. Once you attack the few easy items it gets very difficult to drop weight.
The bumper shocks are some heavy pieces and can be replaced by the euro version which are quite light

You would need to operate wipers to pass inspection, but you could remove the motor after that.
And I guess one way to save weight is to relocate. To a state where you don't need a pile of smog equipment to lug around. Or heavy cats and mufflers.
Mark has a good one -- those bumper shocks are heavy for their size. Ditch those, fab a simple bracket. (Yeah, I know, if you have an accident, etc. etc. If you have an accident that involves your front or rear bumpers, your chances of saving any money in repairs due to the existence of those shocks is very, very unlikely! If it is your personal safety at issue -- keep in mind you are already driving around in a car that literally has a fraction of the impact protections of modern cars.)

Put my old MY94 GTS on a diet and shed approx 200lbs: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...gnificant.html

Perfect solutions.
The car is a non sunroof, no rubstrip and with the comp seats (manual). Bumper shocks are first to go. Wiper motor is a bit drastic and I have to keep the smog pump but not the AC or radio.
I was giving some consideration to plexi side windows. Regardess of what we do the requirement is to keep it looking as stock as possible. Not the gutted race car look.
The carpets are new and I'm using the cheaper carpet that Budd sold with no backing.
