I saw an California custom shop on TV using something called "cathair" to build up interior dash components to look stock. Can be sanded and painted. Anybody know about this stuff?

I was asking why do this kind of thing? Aren't these cars hard enough to work on already?

I know I am a little behind on the gauge topic but there is a better way for those fuel pressure guages. I did this to mine last year, http://home.comcast.net/~tapaudio/engine.htm
some one can post this pic if they feel like it. This is on my 85 and she will be supercharged or turboed in the year to come.

If any one wants more info in the job let me know.

Thurston.

Dave,

Read page #1 of this thread... covers address the issue of overzealous inspectors.

I saw that, but that will barely slow the inspectors down, here in California. They have a list of equipment that came on the vehicle and they will find a SC no matter what you cover it with. Maybe it's time to move to another state that's not so **** about smog inspections.

To respond to your question literally...........though I think reading the thread would provide the answer.........The engine cover line of thought derives from the concern that the SC install is an obvious after market addition that, by its existance in the engine bay alone, will result in a failed inspection in some jurisdictions. Even if the car would pass the environmental tests as so modified. Therefore, the idea was to make the install look OEM, or mask it in some way.

even though it makes the car do this.....

or maybe it is just time to make some friends with someone who owns a shop that can inspect, after all they are human too, and also give the IC the same type of coating as the valve covers and have porsche engraved on it, with a dummy part # entered on the side, also stamp a part # on the tubing, and then have the SC labels removed and engrave Porsche on it again with a dummy part # on it, and if they say anything just say well it says this right on it and I bought it like this. I doubt they would look too far into it, you may have to also change the rubber boots to ones with ribs and a part # in it

I was thinking about 3-4 analog with maybe a clock thrown in. I have no rear air and would love to get rid of the digital clock anyway.
Yes, thats sans ash tray. I would probably put a DC outlet somewhere on the side of the center console (away from the shifter).

I like the readability of digital. Analog probably looks cooler, but its not as readable, at least for me.

When my truck came up for smog they sent me to a smog-only place. No Joy there, I ended up going to a state referee who insisted that I replace the 4bbl with a 2bbl. Emissions were worse with the 2bbl, but now I have the swap back to 4bbl on my to-do list. The only reason they didn't do the smog on a dyno is because it's full-time 4wd. My understanding is that all smog checks in this part of Calif. are now supposed to be carried out on a dyno, except AWD & Full-time 4wd, though rumor has it that 4-wheel dynos are on the way. I'm getting the Shark smogged as part of the work that's being done to the car now, since I need it for transfer of title. But the way things are around here I don't dare even put headers on until the car is exempt in 2008 or so...

Doesn't a Dyno run about $35k?
Doesn't California have a few million people?
Isn't California BROKE beyond belief?

WTF am I missing?

I'd love to move there, but the more I learn about that state, the farthest west I'll ever move is Las Vegas.

Dave A, my sympathies are with you,. While the weather we deal with in the mountains of the North East may be a tad "severe" for a socal boy like you, we do have our freedom from a$$hole regulation here.........

Except for the revenuers.......them bastards still won't let us make 'shine in peace.......

Gretch will make a great 'shine buggey though, as soon as I get the SC up and running......

Remember that California, as we all see in th enews, is only about the most western 30 miles to the coast. The rest, as a good friend of mine says, is Kansas.

Yes, regulations are horrible, but the tide is slowly turning (at least outside of SF). Keep you address in Green Bay (or better yet, get a PO box up in Door County, maybe a nice place on the bay side south of Egg Harbor), and make sure you keep your license, registrations, and smog checks (NONE) up there. Live here and enjoy this state for everything good, and nothing of the bad. 1.25% property tax, 7+% sales tax, and higher wages.

Sure, its a chunk of change for a house.

I'm off topic.

Hows the Gretch comming along? Any concern about that ONE bolts holding the whole pulley assembly? Thats my only concern.

The blower pulley is close to the crankshaft, immediately after the AC pulley, and the other belts are balanced nicely in the context of the lateral tension they might put on the pulley and bolt mechanism.

The replacement bolt is longer than the OEM bolt and seats as deeply into the crank as the original. I don't have any real concerns about this aspect of the install, I am much more concerned about getting the fueling right, for the obvious reasons.

One of the advantages of this particular kit is there are at least three pretty vocal guys running hard with it now, and (including me) three guys that I know of who are in the middle of an install righ now. Plus Tim is already working on some additional fancy upgrades.

I like my 928 a lot and do not intend to go crazy with all the new HP. Like I said a few months ago, for me this project is all about "gee wiz", "good looks ", and an occasional "hoooooleeeeeee shiiiiiite"........
