But if you want to remain low-key, the plastic engine cover is a good idea.
I am in NH ("Live Free or Die"), we don't have "inspectors" for anything beyond a leaky exhaust, shakey front wheels, headlights that don't work or a horn that is not.........

You know the place.........free america.................

Steve,

I like the way you think. "Achtung!" stickers would add to the realism as well as the black paint, plastic and grime.

Do most 928s have a schematic diagram of the emissions system on a label on the underside of the hood?

It all looks very nice, but I realize that it would be impossible to get a supercharged 928 through the yearly testing here in Sweden. It's all to obvious that it's modified.. Damn..

For the gauge ideas, I have thought about a total redesign of the center console. All gauges, the radio, and the AC could fit if the some new fiberglass pieces were layed. Don't forget Trans oil temp, engine oil temp, coolant water temp (for intercooler).

Yes, in big bold yellow print. Maybe use some of those tamper resistant screws to hold the plastic cover on too. For an extra touch, have the wife/girlfriend take the car in for the inspection. When the inspector asks her to open the hood have her respond with "Okay, but after my husband lost his arm he told me to make absolutely sure that NOBODY ever touches ANYTHING under there."

Brendan,

Have any sketches or pictures of what you had in mind? Any possible suppliers? Although they would not be at eye level, asthetically they would be a big improvement over what is currently being done.

Well, I have this Sketch in my notes, but its about an inch by an inch, so thats not going to help here.

If you look at the center console, at the top you have the vents (these are immobile). Then you have the AC controls, (these are SEMImobile), and then you have buttons for Door and Trip reset (on my 89) - these are by all means mobile). Next we have the radio (mobile) and the REAR AC controls ( GONE - I have NO MORE rear AC - even removed the lines to the back seat). SO without even moving the AC controls, you have about a foot by 9 inches to play with, of which you only need a solid DIN sized area for the radio. I'd say there is room for at least 6 gauges maybe more.

The gauges that I had in mind where the Nordskogs from the summit cataloug:

Fuel

Air Temp

Trans Temp

Etc. This may look a bit busy, but my idea was that with the brightness of the gauges, I could cover the whole area with a smoked plastic cover, thereby creating a much more updated look. All we would see is the AC controls, a blacked out LCD radio, and this black cover when the car is off.

So thats the plan. I personally don't like the A-pillar gauages. Too many visions of a gauge through the forehead in an accident.

It is on the radiator on some cars. I have the oem radiator stickers to re-apply to the air dam on the SC kit. I thought about the "Kompressor" badge, but that concept rings "bogus" to me, like the guys who put M3 badges on POS 3 series cars........

Besides the whole idea is to have the install look like it belongs there. Sometimes you can effectively hide in a crowd.......ie; be obvious to the point of believeability. I am attaching the radiator stickers just for looks, as I don't have to suffer the indignation of a full "poke and cough" inspection.

It would only take a couple hours to pull the supercharger and intercooler out, and make the car look stock for your inspection. I may need to do this, depending on how tough they get with me here. It will still be worth it!

Brendan,

So, you are thinking digital all the way? With six digital guages under a smoke cover you are going to start to look more like an airplane cockpit than a car! Does that include the deletion of the ash tray?

I was thinking about 3-4 analog with maybe a clock thrown in. I have no rear air and would love to get rid of the digital clock anyway.

Spacers are used to align the power steering and air pump pulleys.
Thanks for the answer.

Hey, that IPT stuff looks pretty good, if not a little ricer. Maybe if it were a solid black instead of the "carbon fiber" look?

Gives me an idea, though. Fiberglass cloth... does it come in black???

Errr, why what???

Nice covers could easily be fabricated out of fiberglass cloth, but I would want it to be solid black.

But then, I guess it paints well...
