Indeed, it should not be long before there's another 928 in the garage. I don't mind restoring one for the right price, but I'd be looking for something that had already had the drivetrain gone through (Constantine bearings, top end refresh, etc.).

Someone mentioned a Corvette earlier and I have not been disappointed as this is my daily driver. 2011 GS 6 speed auto with 18k miles 2 years ago. I do love driving it and I have not had any problems with now 30k miles on the clock.
What a beautiful car. Thanks for keeping all the documentation. I have been doing that for a while now too. I have agreed upon value of all 3 928's. 18k on the 79 and 83, and 40k for the 91. Corvette Museum (AMIG) for under 800 a year. I have their policy where I can drive one to work (once a week). Their policy is great for people like us that want to enjoy them and take them out occasionally for pleasure.
Did the shop get it on the frame jig? Did anyone do any work on the chassis? I'm interested in bidding on it, but need to know the basic condition of the chassis before I jump in.
Watch for more than W/P issues on the Jag,Coolant tubes under the S/C leak at the seam,coolant cross over at the back of the heads also do the same,timing chain tensioner issues,S/C issues with the front drive assembly,all the dust boots on the suspension components deteriorated.see if it has documentation that the right oil was used in it all the time.

Never got it on the frame jig, unfortunately. Due to the nature of the hit, and lack of available replacement parts, the shop couldn't repair in a reasonable time before they decided to total it out.
I'd be surprised if the frame was bent, though. If it was, definitely not beyond repair. The cruise control module took the brunt of the hit... The seam in the body support structure at the door hinge was cracked, though. The hub has two bolts sheared off at the surface, so it'll need a new hub.
I wouldn't trust the steering rack long term after taking an impact like that, but we didn't see any fluid leaking.
It will definitely need new d/s hub, all new control arms (upper and lower), all new wheel bearings, 2x tie rod ends, drivers door, drivers door card, drivers fender, torque converter bearings, driveshaft bearings. I'm not sure what happened to the bumper... But I think I have an extra.
The fuel pump would whine occasionally when near empty.
The fuel level sender never went over 3/4 tank full.
The voltage at the 12v outlet would dip below 10v when the HVAC was running, headlights on, and idling with the brakes on... But voltage at the jump post was always good. Never was able to determine the cause for such big draw.
HVAC would need 1 can of refrigerant per summer.
The shop broke the hood pull plastic surround when trying to open the hood. Might have been stuck from the accident.
The wipers don't always fully lower, and occasionally you need to tap the stalk to get them fully down.
The transmission would slightly miss going from 2nd to 3rd gear, but replacing the spring didn't help.
One of the rear ac vents is missing a tab, so the vent spins 360deg.
The windshield wiper reservoir dumped fluid after the hit.
Drivers window has some scratches on the tint.
The heat did not work very well, for some reason. Heater valve and all diaphragms work. Vacuum system was excellent... Maybe a blocked core?
Coolant overflow tank had a slow leak at the seam.
Black paint was getting thin on the roof, hood, and fenders.
The side skirts and rear spoiler will likely need to be painted after the wrap is removed. I was not impressed with the paint job the fiberglass guy gave them.
Are you saying that they mix Metric and SAE on the same vehicle? Somehow I doubt that is what you meant. Not that we don't all already have both sets of tools in our boxes. But there are a few specific tools (deep 27 mm socket, 32 mm narrow faced wrench) that I bought specifically for this car.
The bottom line here (going to Chevy that is) is "There is no substitute." Not that working on a Porsche isn't also a pain in the neck at times. Love'em all, I just love some more than others.
