My l9ng spring, I think, is replaced or has a change in design using a plastic piece that attaches them all for unison movement... Is it your experience that an intact unit has both the plastic rail and the steel connector?

The 80 is new. What I don't want to do is buy another one of these things that suffers the same design flaw,,, new or used. I was wondering if there are any clever methods or whole other designs that folks have come up with to address the issue...?

If all you are trying to do is to get all of the fins to move together, just drill small holes in the bottom of each one, string some clear fishing line through each one and knot each one of them as you go. Then they should all move together when you move one. It should be dark enough inside the housing so the fishing line is not visible. Otherwise, try some black thread.

Default Time for part upgrade ?

Maybe since you have an inside track to a machinist.
The part might could be reproduced in composite, aluminum or some type plastic. Maybe a design improvement that could be used as a prototype. Nate might have some great input on this.

I think I have those vent assemblies in my leftover parts box and they're not compatible with the console in my 79. If I do and they're good, I'll sell you both for $35 shipped in the US.

We all know what the vent looks like, but what about this machinist girlfriend - LOL?

I think there are only 2 vent configurations, but could be wrong. Configuration 1 is mine where the vents aren't as wide and the control **** for the flap behind them is on the left (which is why they're not as wide). Configuration #2 is the full width vents that are essentially as wide as mine + the **** because there either isn't a **** on those or the know if located elsewhere.

If you're interested, I'll pull them out and measure them.

Jay (and Scott),

Here's what I have in my vents bag.

Jay, unfortunately it looks like someone must have bought the one I had for you at Sharks in the Mountains last year.

Scott, the vents on the right should fit your OB. I have 2 frames - one has a broken post but the other has all 4 intact. 2 of the vents on the right side of the photo fir the console vent and 2 of them are from a rear a/c vent I modified to house my amp. Then I have 3 loose blades but the 3 posts on them are good, depending on how many you need.

The 3 on the left are door vents - 2 are in good shape and one less good

Default OB vents

Definitely want all the OB vents you have to offer.
I haven't broken into mine yet so never know what I'll break in the process.
