Default Need to add knock sensors to S3 block

I was a able to remove the plug near the front of the valley. But, I cannot get any of my sockets to get any purchase on the aft bolt after removing the remnants of the throttle body buffer mounts.

Any suggestions?

Cut down the OD of a 6 point socket in a lathe.

Do you have one of those Gator Grip sockets with all of the little pins inside. I bet if you shoved that on there enough of the pins would engage around the gaps of the hex head where you could rotate it out.

What are these plugs for and while I have good access to them on the 4.7L engine I'm installing is there anything I should remove and reseal?

Just screw an easy out into the M6 thread.....assuming you don't need to use the fitting again

Tap it out with a chisel.

I soaked them in PB blaster and turned down a socket in a lathe. one I ended up backing out with a left handed drill bit.

weld a nut of the top of it. The heat will loosen the loctite holding it and give you something to put a socket on.

Combined a couple of suggestions. Drilled the hole out to use my largest ez out, soaked it in PB Blaster and used a crescent wrench on the ez out to remove it.

Now I need to find a couple of knock sensor mounting bolts - not broken out in the parts PDF.

I need 1-2 of these too if you find a source.

Kevin B, since you've removed one of these valley plugs, what is the thread pitch and diameter. it looks like from the size of the head it might be an M18 and maybe the common M18x1.5. The recess that the top needs to set down into to seal up looks like it's 22mm and the top of the center plug with the allen center looks like it's 21mm. If these do have an M18x1.5 thread spec, do you think a Cam Tower Plug would work (see picture).

It too is an M18x1.5 has a sealing lip under which we could use a crush washer, but we'd have to reduce the top size from 23mm in diameter to about 21mm, but since they're aluminum, probably not too hard to do on a belt sander or something. We'd drill out the allen key and tap it for an M8 bolt that could go through the knock sensor. Put some sealant on the knock sensor bolt when installing and I think it might work.

What do you think and what's the plug spec.

Here's what I removed - the longer one was the threaded insert. Note its length. Has to be longer to support the M8 thread. No crush washers.

Do you have a thread gauge that will tell is the thread diameter and pitch of those. Then I think I can find us something that will screw in there with a threaded top like the longer one on the right so we can thread in a bolt to hold the knock sensor.
