Thumbs up Porsche Sound History - LP

I couldn't resist telling the board about this one on eBay. It is a sound history for Porsche racing....it includes sound bites of the 928 too!? Did the factory race the 928? Worth a look...

The factory raced the 928 in a number of limited capacities, finally concluding the 928 was "not in any way at all competitive as a race platform" (not a direct quote). A shame since the plan was to homologate the 928 soon after that, but of course it was cancelled. Personally, I think that from the start as Viribus Unis said, Porsche should have made two models, an S and a GT, auto with power everything and 5-/6-speed with manual everything. Had Porsche modelled the 928 exactly upon the Lamborghini Countach or even the Miura, they might have had a real shot. To me, the Miura is the target for my 928. Leather and performance and abundance of class, and nothing else.

Incidentally, I think it's Mark Kibbort's car that did 176 avg going round one direction, and then 186 avg in the opposite direction, at an Italian track. Also, an S4 was taken around a European track for a solid 24 hours and averaged something ridiculous like 156mph. It was then driven home to Germany. The factory entered 928's in US races also, and that is where it was decided that much more horsepower was needed to compete with the camaros and vettes.

Brent,
Good point...I'll keep an eye out for that on eBay ;-) If anyone here has a copy of this LP (Porsche Sound History...a Porsche factory publication)...digitize the 928 sample and upload it to us somehow...
pretty please?

>> The 928 did set two world speed records, but it was at the Bonneville salt flats in 1986.

Yes, please, that would be cool- perhaps by PM if you want/need to limit bandwidth use? Or just post the link?

^^^ Won't allow me to play either file, even though I have players for both. A little nervous about downloading as it notifies that it won't be scanned because of the large file size.
Mmmmm Caution ... second look and this is an ancient post with a new member resurrecting ... can a mod please check.

I downloaded the .wav file and it plays fine. The first couple of tracks sound like Beetles but it gets much better.

Files are legit, both the 100MB MP3 and the 442MB WAV.

Here is the 928 section from the WAV, 34:55-36:20, to a 1.32MB MP3 - PorscheSoundHistory928.mp3

Default Glad i could help

The Voice over tells the Story of Porsche in a chronological order. Sadly there is no translation
The mp3 is compressed at 320 kbit/s.

P.S:The guy who gave me the record owns a 906 AND a 910.
