Lightning in a Bottle
Lightning in a Bottle
I recently got a note from Joe (Polecat) regarding a quote he remembered from way back called "Lightning in a Bottle". He thought that I wrote it, but I didn't and was racking my brain to figure out what it was because it sounded so familiar.
Fast forward to yesterdays PacNW 928 dinner gathering with Sterling and I mention to Adam that Joe was looking for the quote....and he immediately said.."I wrote that"....LOL..no wonder it sounded familiar. We had asked Laura V (928srus) to put it on a plaque that we presented to Adam at one of the OCIC's. A true blast from the past that continues to resonate today
I found the actual thread where Adam worked his verbal magic...:

The 928 is Lightning in a Bottle.
It's creation is one of those very rare moments in time where the ingenuity of man and the elements of nature have been captured together in one instant to be re-lived over and over again in a very real and visceral way by those fortunate enough to own one, yet vulnerable enough to open themselves to the emotional elation and technical wonder that emanate from these cars.

Okay, is it supposed to be 'Lighting', 'Lightning', or 'Lightening'?
Yeah, we've got geniuses here.

Lightening in a bottle would be one full of Helium
So I'm going with B - "Lightning in a Bottle" as Porsche and Zeus create the 928.

I started at the top and thought I should do a little bit of spelling correction; By the next couple posts I realized that it's too late to help... Fixed only the title, so it's searchable.

Too funny. Just checked the "original" post and it took over 25 comments before someone caught the misspelling. You guys are getting faster in your old age

That was enjoyable, getting to meet some of the local owners, as well as one lost soul who wandered in from a warmer area...

Just to shed some "light" on this topic, en.wikionary.org says this: "lightning in a bottle"
[QUOTE]Originally (19th century) a literal reference to Benjamin Franklin’s kite experiment, capturing electricity from lightning and storing it in a Leyden jar, along with variants such as bottled lightning.[1]
Later used in baseball context in sense “difficult feat”, from circa 1941, attributed to Leo Durocher.[2] Wider use grew in 1980s and 1990s, particularly in sense “great, fleeting success”, and popular since 2000s[QUOTE]
Wikionary seems to have some credibility, but I haven't determined that. "worldwidewords.org also supports Durocher in 1941. So I leave it up to you as to making a claim.
This discussion is reminiscent of marijuana infused dorm discussions along the line of "Well, I never heard it before, and I wrote it so I get half credit for creating it."

I don't think anyone is claiming that Adam created the phrase "lightning in a bottle". At least I don't read it that way.
He just applied it to the 928 in a very nice way.
